Bert Wrede

Bert Wrede (* 1961 in Potsdam ) is a German guitarist and composer who mainly works for the stage and film .

Life's work

Bert Wrede studied from 1982 to 1986 at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin and, after completing his studies, received a teaching post there, which he held until 1994. During this time he gave many concerts with his band Frigg all over Europe, Asia and North America. He appeared at a number of festivals, for example at the Jazzfest Berlin and at Jazz Across The Border in the House of World Cultures in Berlin, at jazz festivals in Leningrad and Novosibirsk . He also worked in the quartet BakaMutz (with Theo Nabicht , Thierry Madiot and Mauro Gnecchi) and with Albert Ostermaier at Plugged Poetry . In 1997 he received a scholarship for composition from the Akademie der Künste Berlin , where he was a master student of Friedrich Schenker , and completed a scholarship with Elliott Sharp in New York .

Then he worked as a composer for incidental music in spoken theater. For example, he worked with the directors Martin Kušej , Dimiter Gotscheff and Andrea Breth . For Michael Thalheimer he wrote the incidental music for Liliom von Molnar, Emilia Galotti von Lessing, Faust von Goethe and for Die Ratten and Die Weber von Hauptmann. He quickly received commissions from large companies such as the Deutsches Theater Berlin , Thalia Theater Hamburg , Residenztheater Munich , and abroad: at the Burgtheater in Vienna, at the Dramaten in Stockholm, at the Het Nationale Theater Den Haag and at the Théâtre national de la Colline in Paris.

Wrede has been working together with the Salzburg Festival since 2000 . This began with Kušej's production of Hamlet , continued in 2002 with Thalheimer's Woyzeck interpretation and in 2005 and 2006 with two further directorial works by Martin Kušej : Grillparzer's King Ottokars Glück und Ende and Nestroy Höllenangst . Two productions by Andrea Breth followed in 2008 and 2012 : Dostojeksijs Verbrechen und Strafe and Kleist's Prince Friedrich von Homburg or the Battle of Fehrbellin , and finally Thalheimer's idiosyncratic interpretation of Schiller's Maiden of Orleans in 2013 .

Bert Wrede published numerous albums as a composer and guitarist, he wrote many film scores, also for television films and series, also for short films. Examples are the films Banale Tage , Knallhart , Mondkalb and the film trilogy Dreileben . He received important awards.
