Thierry Madiot

Thierry Madiot (born September 8, 1963 in Compiègne ) is a French jazz and improvisation musician ( bass trombone , instruments he invented) and composer.

Live and act

Madiot became interested in jazz at an early age and was already on stage at the age of ten. In the groups Bohème du Chic (with Alain Mahé and Pascal Battus) and Baka Mutz he penetrated the field of improvised music. With Noël Akchoté he founded Astrolab in 1991 in order to explore new sounds with numerous invited musicians, supported by Benoît Delbecq and Daniel Beaussier. In 1993 he was invited to concerts in London by Derek Bailey . He worked in the large formations Tous Dehors by Laurent Dehors and Lousadzak by Claude Tchamitchian. He also performed with Joëlle Léandre , Daunik Lazro and Alfred Spirli and founded an improvisation trio with Seijiro Murayama and Pascal Battus, which he expanded to include the dancer Li-Ping Ting and the sculptor Michel Vogel. He also worked with Marc Ducret , Jean-Louis Méchali , Jean-Pierre Jullian, Claude Barthélemy , Urs Leimgruber , Sophie Agnel , Ramón López and Daniel Erdmann . With Thomas Tilly and Ollivier Coupille he improvises the performance Dans la forêt de David Tudor based on David Tudor's Rain Forest .

Madiot also founded the In-Ouïr association , which organized the Ca vaut jamais le réel festival from 2004 to 2008 . He is also a member of the ensembles Hiatus , Dedalus and Archipel , which perform composed music, and directs the brass ensemble Ziph , with which he performs his compositions.
