Jürgen Kupke

Jürgen Kupke (* 1960 in Vogtland ) is a German clarinetist .

Kupke studied clarinet from 1977 to 1981 at the “Hanns Eisler” University of Music in Berlin , then until 1987 he was solo clarinetist at the Theater der Stadt Brandenburg and from 1987–1991 saxophonist and clarinetist at the small stage Das Ei at Berlin's Friedrichstadtpalast . Since 1992 he has worked as a freelance studio and theater musician, u. a. for the Deutsches Theater Berlin , Berliner Ensemble and the Maxim-Gorki-Theater . In 1989 he was a member of the Günter Heinz Quartet , in 1994 he was a guest musician in the band Animato around Bernhard Kegel . Since 1995 he has been playing in a duo with the pianistHannes Zerbe . He was also the band Frigg by Bert Wrede on, with he recorded several albums. In 1998 the album The Clarinet Trio ( Leo Records ) was created, with Kupke (clarinet), Gebhard Ullmann and Theo Nabicht (bass clarinet). He has been a member of the Hermann Keller Quartet since the mid-2000s ; since 2011 he has been a member of Hannes Zerbes Jazzorchester Berlin. He also worked on Ullmann's various Ta Lam band projects, such as the tribute album to Charles Mingus (2011). He teaches at the Berlin-Kreuzberg Music School.
