Richard Koch (musician)

Richard "Ritsche" Koch (* 1979 in Tulln on the Danube ) is an Austrian jazz trumpeter.

Koch first studied at the Conservatory of the City of Vienna (today Music and Art Private University of the City of Vienna ), later at the University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart and from 2000 at the University of the Arts in Berlin.

Since 1997 he has been active in the field of jazz and improvisation music. He worked with musicians such as Hermeto Pascoal , Frank Gratkowski , Ingrid Laubrock , Satoko Fujii , the Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra , Peter Fox ( Stadtaffe ), the Beatsteaks and Nils Frahm . With the bassist and composer Christian Weber he formed the duo Space Madness , which released two CDs.

He also played in the band Olaf Ton around the saxophonist and composer Benjamin Weidekamp and in Animate Repose by Tilo Weber . He founded his own quartet with Michael Hornek , Andreas Lang and Andi Haberl . He played concerts and festivals in Europe, South America, Asia and Africa.

Richard Koch operates in a variety of genres and forms of expression. This led to a multitude of projects that merge music with other art forms (dance, visual arts, language). Since 1998 he has been working with the speech artist Christian Reiner and is involved in theater and radio play productions. In the project Ritsche, Zast & Marien , Koch, the artist ZAST and Christian Marien bring music and painting together on stage and show different ways of communicating these two art forms.
