Almut Kühne

Almut Kühne (* 1983 in Dresden ) is a German jazz singer and interpreter of new music .

Live and act

Kühne, who comes from a family of artists, received piano lessons from the age of seven. She began taking singing lessons at the age of 16. Until 2008 she studied jazz at the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin .

In 2005 Kühne belonged to the Berlin Youth Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Nicolai Thärichen , with whom she took part in the World Forum of Sacred Music in Los Angeles. With Georg Graewes Ensemble sonic fiction she gave concerts at the Nickelsdorfer Konfrontationen and at the Total Music Meeting . She appeared in a duo with Gebhard Ullmann and Anthony Coleman as well as in combos and other large formations. She runs the Dowland Waters project with Johanna Borchert and Antonis Anissegos as well as the video artists Benjamin Schindler and Markus Glandt .

Kühne has released two albums under his own name on Unit Records . She was also involved in a CD production of Bach's Christmas Oratorio with the Dresden Chamber Choir and the Gewandhaus Orchestra under the direction of Riccardo Chailly . She has also interpreted vocal works by Graewe, John Cage , Luigi Nono , Helmut Lachenmann , Ondrey Adamek and Michael Edward Edgerton .

Prizes and awards

In 2009, Kühne won the Berlin Senate Studio Prize for her solo project. The CD Silver White Archives (in a duo with Gebhard Ullmann) was nominated for the German Record Award in 2014 .
