Aki Sebastian Ruhl

Aki Sebastian Ruhl (* around 1977 in Bielefeld ) is a German environmental engineer who has also emerged as a jazz musician ( trumpet ).

Ruhl studied environmental engineering and between 2010 and 2012 was involved in the study of the effects of various accompanying substances of carbon dioxide streams deposited in coal-fired power plants on their underground storage at the Federal Institute for Materials Testing . Then he worked in the field of water pollution control at the Institute for Environmental Protection at the TU Berlin . In his doctorate, which he completed there in 2013 and which was awarded the Walter Kölle Prize , he dealt with alternative methods for groundwater remediation , in particular with the use of fixed bed filters made of granulated gray cast iron and their safe process management. Under the direction of Martin Jekel , he was involved in the joint project ASKURIS (Anthropogenic organic micro-pollutants and pathogens in the urban water cycle: Assessment, barriers and risk communication) and microplastics in water at the TU Berlin since 2013 . In 2017 he received the prize of the GdCh Water Chemical Society "for his excellent scientific research and his commitment to the specialist group". He is currently (2019) employed by the Federal Environment Agency .

As a musician, after studying in Detmold, Tokyo and Berlin, he studied jazz trumpet at the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin with Gerard Presencer . He was also a member of the Federal Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer . He led the Sana Bana Band , which accompanied the Turkish-born singer Derya Takkali (album 2005). With the formation Stereo Lisa he presented the album Anno Onno Monno in 2008 . As a member of the Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra , he was involved in its performances and albums until 2012 and also recorded with The Notwist .
