Tom Arthurs (born July 18, 1980 in Northamptonshire , England) is a British jazz musician ( trumpet , flugelhorn , composition ).

Live and act

Arthurs graduated from City University, where he received his bachelor's degree; he also worked in the Londoern jazz and improvisation scene, a. a. in the F-IRE Collective ( Fellowship for Integrated Rhythmic Expression ) and the formations Jade Fox, Timeline and Robert Mitchell's Panacea , also with Pete Wareham, Evan Dawson, Jo Thomas, Barak Schmool, Chartwell Dutiro and Pete Lockett, Kenny Wheeler , Norma Winstone , Bosco De Oliveira , Omar Puente and the salsa band Merengada . Arthurs continued his studies in the 2000s a. a. with Dave Douglas and Joe Lovano . In 2004 he worked for drummer Joe Sorbara ; other band projects are Thirsty Ears and the quintet Centripede , whose debut album contains Athurs' compositions. In the field of jazz, he was involved in nine recording sessions between 2004 and 2014, including a. with Ingrid Laubrock ( Zurich Concert , Intakt, 2011) and Julia Hülsmann ( In Full View , ECM, 2012 and A Clear Midnight: Kurt Weill and America , ECM, 2014). In 2009 he received the RPS Composition Prize from the Royal Philharmonic Society . In 2018, he succeeded Valérie Portmann as head of the jazz department at the Bern University of the Arts .
