Simon Harrer (* 1978 in Singen (Hohentwiel) ) is a German jazz musician ( trombone ) who also works as a university teacher.

Live and act

Harrer, who grew up in Stockach on Lake Constance, moved to Berlin in 1998. There he studied jazz trombone between 1999 and 2004 with Jiggs Whigham and Sören Fischer at the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin . Since graduating, he has played in Marc Secara's Berlin Jazz Orchestra and Andrej Hermlin's Swing Dance Orchestra . Since 2005 he has belonged to the RIAS Big Band , since 2008 to the Ed Partyka Jazz Orchestra and the Big Band of the Deutsche Oper . He continued to take the Large Ensemble of Stefan Schultze and Lauer Large of John Lauer on. He had other engagements with the Sunday Night Orchestra , the Berlin Art Orchestra and the formations of Max Herre , Lillo Scrimali , Tobias Kremer and Reinhold Schmölzer . With the formation Clave Azul he received the extra Latin price of the Berlin Jazz & Blues Award in 2005 .

He was also involved as a sideman on records for pop acts such as 2raumwohnung , Seeed , Peter Fox (“ Stadtaffe ”) and Andreas Kümmert , and toured with Xavier Naidoo in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Since 2004 he has been a regular lecturer in the state youth jazz orchestras of Berlin, Brandenburg, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, and from 2007 he lectured on jazz trombone at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theater in Leipzig . From 2008 to 2011 he was also the head of the Unibigband Magdeburg. After a guest professorship in Graz, he was appointed professor for jazz trombone at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden in 2014 .
