Marc Secara (born February 20, 1976 ) is a German jazz and pop singer.

Life

At the age of 15, Secara formed his first band. After high school and community service, he studied music (saxophone) at the Nuremberg University of Music . In 1998 he switched to the “Hanns Eisler” University of Music in Berlin , majoring in singing / popular music. In 2000, Secara received an IASJ scholarship and a study visit to the Berklee College of Music in Boston (USA). From 1997 to 1999 he was a soloist and vocal group member in the Federal Youth Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer .

In 1998 he founded Berlin Voices. Since 2000 Secara has been working with his own Big Band Berlin Jazz Orchestra under the direction of the former RIAS Big Band conductor Jiggs Whigham . In 2001, the Marc Secara Group was the world's first western jazz band to go on tour in the Islamic Republic of Iran . On another tour of Iran in 2002, he and his Marc Secara Group won first prize as “Best Artist” at the nationwide music festival Fader. In 2004 Secara was on a European tour as the “cultural ambassador” of the Federal Republic of Germany and played four concerts for the former Federal Presidents Johannes Rau and Horst Köhler . In July 2006 he sang in a duet with baritone Thomas Quasthoff at the Federal President's Summer Festival. In 2006 he also toured Germany as a soloist with the HR Big Band, strings and a choir.

In cooperation with the music agent Jacky Wagner and Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb) the albums Update and You're Everything were released in 2004 and 2008 with arrangements by the British arranger Steve Gray . Since 2008 Secara has been on tour with the actor and singer Manfred Krug . In 2009 Secara signed a production contract with Bert Kaempfert Music Publishing. This was followed by recordings for the production with a German all-star big band under the direction of Jörg Achim Keller and Wolf Kerschek as well as with the Babelsberg Film Orchestra. In 2009 he sang and composed the title song Killing is my business, honey for the movie Murder is my business, darling with Nora Tschirner and Rick Kavanian . 2010 was the premiere and presentation of the new stage show Now and Forever .

Since 2008 he has been the vocal coach of the Bundesjugendjazzorchester (BuJazzO), the Landesjugendjazzorchester Brandenburg and the Landesjugendjazzorchester Berlin. He also leads the state youth jazz and pop choir Young Voices Brandenburg. In 2013 he was appointed professor for singing and ensemble at the University of Popular Arts (Berlin). Marc Secara lives in Berlin.
