Best supporting actor: Ulrich Tukur , also for The Lives of Others

At the ceremony of the German Film Prize in 2006 at 12. May 2006 dominated Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck's film The Lives of Others . The drama about a Stasi captain who is commissioned to spy on a famous GDR writer was able to convert seven of its eleven nominations into victories, including in the categories of best feature film (film prize in gold, endowed with 500,000 euros), director and Ulrich Mühe and Ulrich Tukur as best actor. The productions Requiem and Knallhart by Hans-Christian Schmid and Detlev Buck were awarded the silver film prize (endowed with 400,000 euros each) . Requiem describes, loosely based on a true story, an exorcism carried out on a young student in the early 1970s . Leading actress Sandra Hüller, who has already won the Silver Bear at the Berlinale and the Bavarian Film Prize for her acting performance , was awarded the Golden Lola for Best Actress in her absence. Knallhart is based on the youth novel of the same name by Gregor Tessnow and tells the story of a fifteen-year-old boy (played by David Kross ) who has to move with his mother ( Jenny Elvers-Elbertzhagen ) from the well-off Berlin district of Zehlendorf to the socially disadvantaged district of Neukölln . The honorary award for services to German film was given to artist agent Erna Baumbauer .

Andreas Dresen's tragic comedy Summer in front of the balcony was one of the inferior films of the evening . The film about two Berlin friends in search of private happiness did not receive an award despite six nominations. The two leading actresses Inka Friedrich and Nadja Uhl received the Actor Award at the 2005 Chicago International Film Festival . Even before the award ceremony, Oskar Roehler's drama Elementarteilchen was counted among the losers. The highly acclaimed film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Michel Houellebecq received nominations in the actor categories only from Moritz Bleibtreu and Martina Gedeck . Hany Abu-Assad's drama Paradise Now , which was produced with German funding, was also not considered . The film, which was received controversially by critics and nominated for Best Feature Film and Best Screenplay, won the Golden Globe in 2006 , as well as an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.

Comedian and film director Michael "Bully" Herbig led through the gala of the German culture award, which has the highest endowment with 2.845 million euros . The film academy, which consists of over 700 members from all artistic areas of German film, decided on victory and defeat in a secret and written vote. The election is under the supervision of the Berlin notary Hellmut Sieglerschmidt, who is the only one who knows the winners of the Lola in advance.
