Erna Baumbauer

Erna Baumbauer (born January 8, 1919 in Munich ; † January 30, 2010 there ) was a German acting agent .

Live and act

Erna Baumbauer initially worked as a bookseller, but was primarily interested in the theater. As a freelance journalist, she wrote reviews and worked for a film distributor. Because of her acquaintance with members of the Münchner Kammerspiele it was possible for her to make further contacts. After the Second World War , she began to recruit actors and founded an agency. She worked there until the end, supervising the careers of numerous theater and film actors.

Baumbauer was considered the “grande dame” of artist agents and was described by Ulrich Mühe as the “Queen of Bavaria” on the occasion of the 2006 Bavarian Film Prize. In 2006 she received the honorary award of the German Film Prize for her life's work. On July 5th of the same year she was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit. In 2008 she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class . She was the mother of the artist agent Patricia Baumbauer and the former artistic director of the Münchner Kammerspiele, Frank Baumbauer .
