Lars Jessen

Lars Jessen (born April 13, 1969 in Kiel ) is a German director and screenwriter .

Life

Born in Kiel, Lars Jessen grew up in Dithmarschen as the son of the educator Elke Mueller-Stahl and the university professor Klaus Jessen . In the early 1980s he lived with his mother in a shared apartment near Brokdorf. Jessen processed memories of it in his feature film debut On the Day when Bobby Ewing died .

After graduating from high school in 1988 at the Meldorfer School of Academics and where he worked for Video AG, he began studying history, politics and philosophy in Cologne, which he completed in 1995 with a master's degree. After a travel internship with the ARD series Lindenstrasse , Jessen completed another degree in film / television at the Cologne Art Academy for Media. He graduated with the documentary Lübke - A Search for the Federal President Heinrich Lübke . Jessen was a student of Horst Königstein , and he also worked for many years as an assistant to the director George Moorse .

Lars Jessen first made documentaries and television reports . He has directed episodes from several television series. He also wrote the script for some episodes of the series.

He has also made five feature films so far, two of them in collaboration with Ingo Haeb , with whom he wrote the script.

Lars Jessen is married and has three sons. He lives in Hamburg . His sister is the actress Miriam Mueller-Stahl , who has often played under the direction of her brother.

  • 1996: 1st prize at the International Short Film Festival of the Italian Film Schools for The Ballad of Kim and Joe
  • 1996: 2nd prize at the “Short Cuts Cologne”, also for The Ballad of Kim and Joe
  • 2005: Max Ophüls Prize for On the Day when Bobby Ewing died
  • 2006: Prize for special services to the film region Schleswig-Holstein

In 2014, the Großstadtrevier episode Heile Welt , directed by Lars Jessen, was nominated for Metropolis, the award of the Federal Association of Directing.
