The Last Cowboy (working title: Der Rheinische Cowboy ) is a mini-series produced by Molina Film for WDR about a middle-aged man who has been thrown back into the life of a salesman and has to put everything on one card. Behind every door he rings, a new challenge awaits him. Directed by Lars Jessen after a series of concept Lars Albaum , who together with Sonja Schönemann and Markus Barth wrote the screenplays. The WDR broadcast the series from December 26, 2016 within three days.

Hasso Gründel is a field sales coordinator for the company "Kattelmann", a traditional vacuum cleaner manufacturer. He has set himself up in the middle of life and lives his quiet middle-class life with his wife Melanie in the semi-detached house. But economic change does not stop at the vacuum cleaner business and with a new boss there is also a new wind in the shop. The sales representatives moving from door to door are fired from one day to the next and Hasso Gründel is supposed to leave immediately.
But he gets a chance. If he manages to sell sixty copies of the legendary “Kattelmann” model “Panther 2000” on his own, then he can stay. Hasso accepts the challenge, together with the house cat of the Gründels, because Melanie is on the cure and the cat must not be left alone. So Hasso goes cleaning the handles. He does not successfully implement vacuum cleaners, but there is plenty of help from him, no matter what awaits him behind the next door. Because every apartment has a secret behind the well-tended facade.
Background production
The announced story arc suggests a similarity with the narrative concept of the NDR series “ Tatortreiniger ”, only without the bloody remains of murdered people. For the production company Molina Film and the executive producer Jutta Müller , who already have a lot of experience in television film productions, especially the " Tatort ", this is also a step towards series production .
The filming took place around Cologne and was shot from October 26th to December 17th, 2015.
