action

Jürgen Dose is a porter and lives with his bedridden mother in a Hamburg high-rise estate. His only friend is Bernd Würmer, who is sitting in a wheelchair. What they both have in common is that beyond the age of 40 they are still looking for the woman for life. An attempt at speed dating fails and so they seek out the dating agency for Eastern European women "EuropLove". The agency owner Schindelmeister lets her choose Polish women from a catalog who are supposedly looking for love. Even at this first meeting, both men keep an eye on the assistant Anja. Together with the other loners Kombi, Knüppel, Hubi and Dennis, who are looking for contact, they set off on their journey to Stettin. The fact that Jürgen gets along well with Anja during the journey arouses Bernd's displeasure, who then prefers to amuse himself with the crude stick. When Bernd arrives late on his date because of a flat wheelchair tire, Jürgen pretends to be him at the lady’s. There is a final break between the friends and Jürgen leaves alone by train. There he meets Anja again, who has since been dismissed by Schindelmeier. The two of them have to spend the return journey in a shared sleeping car compartment. But here, too, a future together with Anja remains just a dream for Jürgen. A few days later, Jürgen receives a visit from Bernd at home. During the following discussion, Bernd confesses that he actually no longer needs to sit in a wheelchair. In addition, the two agree to try to find a woman through personals.

Reviews

This section consists only of a cunning collection of quotes from movie reviews. Instead, a summary of the reception of the film should be provided as continuous text, which can also include striking quotations, see also the explanations in the film format .

“In the television film 'Jürgen - Today is Lived', a sad existence is laconic, loving and disillusioning as it were designed by the main actor and author Heinz Strunk. Director Lars Jessen also keeps his distance from the action. For the viewer, this means: setting up in a strange microcosm from which there is initially no escape through relieving, redeeming punchlines. The joke reflects the existence of these permanent singles from the sad figure. By renouncing popular medium-sized companies, Jessen clears the way for a consciously artless, laconic realism: a rarity in the stylish TV film of the 10s. "

“In spite of the rather worn out topic and the title, which is evocative, 'Jürgen - Today is lived' knows how to stay away from kitsch for miles. In addition to lewd and incorrect jokes, subtle situational comedy and an inimitable sense of the wrong word at the wrong time, the actors in particular ensure this: with irony master Heinz Strunk and absurdity king Charly Hübner as well as side appearances by Rocko Schamoni, Olli Schulz and Klaas Heufer- Umlauf cannot even create a feeling of well-being.
