The way to the Eurovision Song Contest

National preliminary decision

On December 6, 2017, AWS was confirmed as a participant in the national preliminary round . The group entered the second round of the competition on January 27, 2018 and reached the semi-finals of the music competition through the jury voting. On February 17th, the group took part in the semi-finals, in which they again reached the final by jury decision.

The final was played on February 24th. AWS and Viszlát nyár won the competition in which the audience was allowed to vote.

Eurovision Song Contest

With their contribution, the band took part in the second semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest , which was held on May 10, 2018. Germany , France and Italy were entitled to vote alongside the participants in the second semi-final. With their entry, Hungary qualified as one of the ten best participants in the second semi-final for the final on May 12, 2018. At the subsequent starting place draw, it was announced that AWS will present their entry in the second half of the final. After the final, the results of the two semi-finals were published. Viszlát nyár prevailed just ahead of the Romanian participant The Humans and came in tenth. The two articles only separated four points.

In the final, Hungary started in 21st place. The song did poorly with the jury. The Hungarian contribution received points only from the committees from Azerbaijan , Greece , Cyprus , Israel , Poland , the Czech Republic and Lithuania , with Azerbaijan being the only one to award the highest score with 8 points. The play was a little better received by the audience: the highest score of 12 points was given by Serbia to the Hungarians. Romania and Finland gave 10 and 8 points, respectively. The Hungarians received seven points from Poland and five from Bulgaria. The spectators from Austria , Estonia , Slovenia and Montenegro each awarded three points, from Germany , the Netherlands , Italy , Moldova and Belarus two points went to Hungary. The Ukraine gave bye, nyár with a dot. In the end there were 93 points, which meant 21st place.

Viszlát nyár was released on October 21, 2017 on the Hungarian label EDGE Records on a digital level worldwide. Two days earlier, an official music video was published on the YouTube platform that has now received over a million views (as of April 10, 2018) . On April 20, 2018, the song will be released on the official sampler as a sound carrier along with the other entries from the Eurovision Song Contest. The day before, on April 19th, the group released an English version of the song called Summer Gone , with the actual translation being goodbye, summer .

Viszlát nyár can be found on the fourth album Fekete Részem , which was released in October 2018, together with the acoustic version of the piece as a bonus song.

Text and music

According to Metal Hammer , the song is about dying. In fact, singer and songwriter Örs Siklósi deals with the death of his father, who died in the summer, in this song. All lyrics are written in Hungarian . Part of the play is written from the father's point of view and shows the suffering and final thoughts of a dying man. The aim of the band with the song is to draw attention to the awareness that the subject of death within the scene itself is largely regarded as something terrible. However, according to the musicians, people often try to talk to each other about this topic in order to appreciate the value of the time together.

Felix Bayer from the Spiegel online service describes Viszlát nyár as a modern metal song with hardcore influences and an “official refrain” that you don't have to speak Hungarian to roar along with. The music of the song is compared with Atreyu .

success

After the final success in Hungary's national preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest, the song rose to number one in the Hungarian single charts .
