Beetle and Princess is a German crime film by Robert Thalheim from 2014. It is the 342nd episode in the film series Polizeiruf 110 and the sixth case for Chief Inspector Olga Lenski, Chief Master Horst Krause is at her side in his 23rd case.

action

Chief Inspector Olga Lenski and Chief Police Officer Horst Krause are called to a farm. A male corpse swims in the manure pit. When Olga Lenski learns the dead man's identity, she is deeply affected. It is about Martin Jahn, the partner of her school friend Ruth, who runs an alternative country farm together with friends.

While Lenski inquires about the conditions in the yard, Krause looks around the area. Both do not miss the fact that the community is currently undergoing a major test. It has recently become known that the leased land is contaminated and is no longer suitable for organic farming.

Lenski can find out that Martin Jahn had last quarreled with a Dieter Kottke and even fought with him. Lenski's personal circumstances in the commune are reminiscent of her own situation: Despite the separation, her daughter's father suggests moving back together with Olga Lenski. Ruth has a child with Paul, who is also a courtier, but lives with Martin. Lenski finds traces of blood on a bicycle, which leads to the conclusion that Martin was slain here in the yard. After checking the cash book, Lenski finds abnormalities. Gunnar Heimann, also a resident of the court, appears suspicious because he borrowed money at short notice. He claims to have repaid this money in the meantime and that there was no argument with Martin about it.

Due to the contaminated soil, the eco-group is about to start over. In order to continue working ecologically, they need an unpolluted location. The city provides them with a symbolic rent in the form of an old LPG . This is structurally very shabby, but it can be expanded. The move does not meet with approval from all members of the group, especially since the area of their old farm is to be used for a luxurious golf course and the investor is already in the starting blocks.

Lenski learns that Martin Jahn was determined to get out of the farm if he restarted and go to Africa. He had even already booked three plane tickets, which the father of Ruth's child should certainly not have liked. After the victim's wallet is found on Paul, he is arrested. He uses an alleged toilet visit to escape from the police station. A little later it is reported that he was seen in the land registry. He contacts Gunnar and both suspect that Martin's death may have had something to do with the property. Lenski also has this assumption: When looking through the land register, it becomes apparent that the farm has already been sold to a Liechtenstein company that belongs to the managing director's brother-in-law Harry Wacker. In addition, the arable land of the Ökohof was rededicated as building land at the city’s last municipal council meeting. With that, it could be sold for almost a hundred times the profit. As the only resident of the farm, Ruth knows about Wacker's plans, but believes that he only wants to make the profit for the financial stabilization of the community. Before Lenski can follow this trail any further, she finds out that the contamination of the soil cannot be a contaminated site , but could only have occurred after 2007: The toxins found apparently come from a paint factory in which Dieter Kottke also works. Lenski confronts him and he admits to having sold a few barrels of "waste sludge" to Harry Wacker. When Lenski asks Harry about this, he admits that he only spread the mud on the small area where the samples were to be taken. He was able to find out the relevant positions in advance. The profit from the sale of the land is only intended for her country farm, so that it is financially on safe feet. He would have argued with Martin about it, but not killed him. He claims that he stood by Ruth when she bumped Martin into a wooden table during an argument and a fight on the evening of the crime, thereby killing him. The forensic investigation, however, found traces of rust in Martin's head wound. With this, Lenski Wacker can prove a murder, while Ruth's thrust did not kill Martin. Lenski is certain that he will also find the murder weapon in the yard that Wacker used to kill Martin with before throwing him into the slurry pit.

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv rates this police call positively and writes: “The love of country and the quiet frustration about the 'conditions' are at the center of the story in 'Beetle and Princess'. It is a film about (lost) dreams and betrayal of a common cause. It's a relationship film in front of the camera and a love film behind the camera. Because the wonderful actors and makers, above all cinema director Thalheim ('Netto'), love their profession. It is not a film for suspense fetishists or Til Schweiger fans, but an unexcited thriller that shows the investigation as a stroll through a landscape that is alive and a light that shines. "

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm gave the best possible rating (thumbs up) and wrote: “Classic, unpretentious 'Who was it?' - crime thriller with a great cast.” As an overall conclusion, they drew: “Environmentally safe, coherent homeland crime story”.
