In Brandenburg the battle of Großbeeren against Napoleon in 1813 is re-enacted. But then the Franconian wine merchant and sponsor of the event, Hajo Porst, is found dead. Johanna Herz and Horst Krause are facing extensive investigations, they have to ask all actors and those responsible for their alibi. Herz has the glorious idea of ​​smuggling Krause into the battlefield as a recruit. So he can better ask around during the exercises. In addition, equipment such as Prussian infantry sabers and rifles were stolen from a bivouac , which he wants to find again, which he succeeds in the end.

Among the friends of the spectacle of the battle is the author of historical writings, Amelie Wieland, who was good friends with Porst. Robert Beck, the inspector's partner, knows Amelie well and has an old story that connects Amelie, her brother-in-law Frank and Porst. Even today they are linked in business, because Frank Wieland gets his goods from Porst. Due to bad business, Wieland owed its supplier. For this he should help him find an old grave. When Amelie Wieland found out that Hajo Porst wanted to enrich herself with this historical find, she quarreled with him. As a result, he fell and broke his neck.

During the investigation into Hajo Post's death, Frank Wieland learns that his own brother had betrayed him to the State Security at the time. He wanted to help Hajo Porst, who had fallen in love with Amelie, to smuggle her out of the GDR. He spent years in prison for this. To take revenge, he loads his rifle with real bullets and wants to shoot him during the Historic Battle. Herz can prevent this and Krause arrests Frank Wieland.
