occupation

Deep Wounds is a TV film from the ARD crime series Polizeiruf 110 . The film was produced by BR under the direction of Buddy Giovinazzo and was broadcast for the first time on January 19, 2003 on ARD as the 245th episode of the crime series. It is the eighth case of the Munich police call investigator Jürgen Tauber and the fifth case for his colleague Jo "Josephine" Obermaier .

Chief Detective Jürgen Tauber is confronted with his past in this episode. Years later, he has to deal with the perpetrators who are responsible for the loss of his arm.

action

In Munich, robbers steal valuable pieces of jewelry when they rob a jewelry store. When the police arrive, the three men flee with the jeweler as hostage, who is brutally shot by one of the perpetrators after a successful escape.

After the corpse is found in a forest, Commissioners Tauber and Obermaier take over the investigation. Jürgen Tauber associates events from his personal past on the basis of an index found at the crime scene. He himself probably owes the loss of his arm to exactly the same robbers. He immediately arrests the three suspects Jaco and Zacharias Brenner, as well as Katja Trenk, who are now being interrogated. Since the evidence is still very thin, the three remain at large. But Tauber is certain that this time he will be more successful than five years ago. Jo Obermaier is annoyed by Tauber's going it alone and threatens him to take over the case alone if he doesn't involve her better.

Tauber knows Katja Trenk better and meets with her. It turns out that she deliberately left him the clue at the scene so that he could find her. With Tauber's help, she hopes to get away from Jaco Brenner, who is increasingly controlling her and who turned out to be an ice-cold killer during her last raid. Tauber tries to obtain a leniency program for Trenk, but cannot persuade the responsible public prosecutor. In contrast, Jo Obermaier will actually be in charge of the case. Now she also learns of Tauber's motivation, who wants to hold the perpetrators of that time accountable at all costs. Katja Trenk tells Tauber the time and place of the next attack. But while he and Obermaier are monitoring the crime scene, Jaco Brenner has changed his destination and also shoots a person here just to demonstrate his power to Katja. Obermaier is not only angry about the failed arrest, but also insinuates that Tauber deliberately lured her to the wrong place. Since Katja Trenk has since disappeared, Tauber also doubts the sincerity of his informant. Meanwhile, Obermaier is certain that Tauber deliberately defends and protects Katja because he obviously loves her and did not want to reveal her five years ago, which meant that everyone involved remained unpunished. Unexpectedly, Tauber receives a message from Katja asking him to come to him. She is still trying to break away from Brenner and hoping for Tauber's help. But there is still a lack of clear evidence to convict Brenner and remove it from the market. This drives Tauber to manipulate them, so that when the suspect's house is searched, the weapons are discovered and Jaco Brenner's fingerprints can also be found on them. The Brenner brothers are then arrested, but have to be released soon, as Tauber's deception does not go undetected. Meanwhile, Tauber is on the road with Kaja, who celebrates her newfound freedom with him. But after his release, Jaco Brenner has only one thought: to bring his girlfriend back by force. Obermaier tries to warn Tauber, who is staying with Katja in a hotel, about Brenner. She also has two officers guard the hotel. However, they are soon shot in cold blood by Brenner, who then breaks into Tauber's room with his brother. To save Tauber from being shot, Katja kills Jaco Brenner. In doing so, however, she goes beyond what is necessary as she fires the entire magazine at him and is therefore arrested.

The events of the past are faded in in flashbacks: When the perpetrators wanted to flee over the roofs at the time, Katja slipped and Tauber was able to save her from falling. He was handcuffed to his left wrist. Unexpectedly, Jaco Brenner appeared with an ax and freed his accomplice by chopping off Tauber's arm.

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from Tittelbach.tv appraised it: “'Deep Wounds' is the fifth joint TV show by the duo Edgar Selge and Michaela May, and it is their best film so far. Christian Limmer has come up with a really gripping story for the one-armed police officer. Suddenly another light shines on the otherwise cool deaf. However, his biography in no way damages the character, rather it makes his cynicism understandable. Head man Tauber, who seemed cut off from his emotions, is now all the more violent. Abysses open up. Wouldn't such a man even be able to kill for his love? "

In an interview with leading actor Edgar Selge , the Süddeutsche Zeitung wrote about the film, which tells “the story of a re-encounter with Tauber's old love, a criminal”, “whom he met in his previous two-armed life while investigating a robbery.” “The crook takes a fire ax, chops off his arm and escapes with the girl. […] I liked the film a lot, but I immediately forgot that scene. Later, I never associated it with Tauber's one-armed relationship. For me it was always like God given: The man is missing something, and that was fine with me. "
