occupation

Marie Brand and the beautiful glow is the fifteenth episode of the Marie Brand crime series . The television film with Mariele Millowitsch as chief detective Marie Brand and Hinnerk Schönemann as chief detective Jürgen Simmel was broadcast on ZDF on March 14, 2015, for the first time on a Saturday .

action

Their latest case takes the inspectors Brand and Simmel to the surroundings of the Cologne rowing club “Agrippina 1888”. Financial advisor Werner Brehm, a great sponsor and member of the club, was found dead floating in the water. Apparently an object hit him on the head during a training drive which, according to Marie Brand's assumption, was thrown at him from a nearby bridge. His daughter Sofie Brehm and her highly talented stepsister Hanna Wahl both train in the club and Marie Brand quickly feels a connection to Hanna, which in some traits seems very similar to her.

Initially, the investigators focus on the victim's professional environment. There might well be some disgruntled customers in the financial industry. One of them is Max Holz, who, however, has an alibi at the time of the crime. Another suspect is the rowing club's kit manager and also Luca Basteck, who is interested in Hanna Wahl, which Brehm didn't like. But investigators soon believe that the murder victim's family is trying to cover up a dark secret. The stepdaughter Hanna Wahl plays a central role in this. Something seems to bother the young girl that she can't or doesn't want to talk about. Marie's attachment to the gifted girl prompts her to get emotionally involved with Hanna more than Simmel thinks it is responsible. After a while she notices herself that she is being used by the girl in the same way that Hanna tries to manipulate all of her fellow men in her own way. She also notices the girl's mood swings, which suggest antisocial personality disorder .

Before Marie can really pay attention to it, she finds out that Brehm had paid the kit man a kind of hush money because Sofie hit the kit man’s son in her father’s car. But Marie can convince the girl to tell the truth, because it wasn't she who drove the car, but Hanna. Sofie says that she would always do what Hanna told her because otherwise she would be very mean to her. When Marie learns that Sofie confided in her father two days ago, she realizes that Hanna may be behind Brehm's murder. Because he had seen through his stepdaughter and already contacted a psychologist. He planned to have Hanna admitted to a psychiatric clinic, which the girl wanted to prevent at all costs.

Hanna is then questioned by Marie as the main suspect and can only wonder about her inability to empathize. But she has no solid evidence against her and so she tries to outsmart the girl. She provokes them until Hanna collapses and furiously confesses the murder of her stepfather. Simmel, who was hiding in the background and overheard everything, reveals himself and the investigators thus have proof against Hanna.

Reviews

Volker Bergmeister from tittelbach.tv says: “For the first time, Mariele Millowitsch will be allowed to work as a Cologne investigator on Saturday evening: In“ Marie Brand und der Schöne Schein ”a rather gloomy case is waiting for her. There is a family secret to be discovered and a young woman with a talent similar to that of the Commissioner to stand up to. A gripping (psycho) duel, versatile, dense, effectively staged and, above all, with Elisa Schlott, who is once again very splendid. "

At the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung , Tom Heise says: “The current episode of the crime series is more coherent and more exciting than last. Brand and Simmel are called to a rowing club. There, the financial advisor and patron of the club, Werner Brehm, who lived with a blended family, was found dead in the water. Marie Brand is fascinated by his non-biological daughter. She seems to be losing her distance, because Hanna, like the Commissioner, has special talents. So Simmel doesn't just have to row literally to protect her colleague from wrong conclusions. "
