Marie Brand and the Wrong Woman is the ninth episode of the Marie Brand crime series . The television film with Mariele Millowitsch as Chief Detective Marie Brand and Hinnerk Schönemann as Chief Detective Jürgen Simmel was broadcast for the first time on May 1, 2012 on ZDF .
action
Marie Brand involuntarily witnesses a kidnapping in which one person is also killed. The perpetrators discover Marie and take her with them in their van. Simmel is contacted to take over the case. He tries in vain to inform his colleague and since he left her in the immediate vicinity of the crime scene, he assumes that not only the banker's wife Sabrina Münzer, but also his colleague was kidnapped.
While Simmel notifies the abductee's husband, the ransom demand is already received. Confusion arises when the kidnappers discover that they have kidnapped the wrong woman. Hanna Sommer, Viktor Münzer's assistant, had made an appointment for his wife, which nobody could have guessed. Simmel and Dr. Engler, the head of the homicide department, ask the Münzer family for their cooperation. In order not to endanger the life of her colleague, her disappearance should be kept secret. Marie can get the kidnappers to sign off "at home" so that her "jealous husband" doesn't worry about calling the police. So she can send an encrypted message to Simmel by phone and hopes that this will help him find the whereabouts. The kidnappers have since learned that they have a policewoman hostage, which raises their hopes for their ransom again.
The police experts succeeded in deciphering Marie's message. Simmel then went to the alleged hiding place, but he could not find anyone there. In the meantime, however, the real Ms. Münzer has been kidnapped and taken to the hiding place with the other two. Since Münzer now willingly pays and the kidnappers are distracted, Marie Brand manages to escape. Simmel and Dr. Englers are relieved and Marie immediately searches the criminal record. You can identify Rainer Sperl through a conspicuous tattoo. He got into an argument with his accomplice, Bastian Lenz, about the money and knocked Lenz down and later shot him. He decides to release Hanna Sommer and demand further ransom. Although Sperl is looking for a new hiding place, Brand and Simmel find him and overwhelm him.
In the end it turns out that Sabrina Münzer had arranged the kidnapping herself, because she assumed that her husband wanted to separate from her. She misinterpreted the recently long business appointments that his assistant was present at. Little did she know that the banking house was in acute financial difficulties and that it was why her husband was so changed. In order not to go completely empty after the marriage contract, she had planned her own kidnapping and since her husband had taken out special insurance that would reimburse the ransom in the event of a kidnapping, her guilty conscience was limited. However, she could not have suspected that the whole thing was getting out of hand and that two deaths were also to be lamented.

Reviews
Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv says: “The ninth episode about the unequal Cologne criminal investigation team Brand / Simmel is one of the strongest films in the ZDF series to date. 'Marie Brand and the wrong woman' always finds the right tone between seriousness and playful attitude. The plot always harbors absurd situations and does not ask the viewer to do anything other than 'good entertainment'. "
The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm think about this new Marie Brand film: “Great actors (Markus Boysen and Dirk Borchardt as big criminals!), Witty dialogues and a number of curious gimmicks provide amusing entertainment. [Conclusion:] Wrong woman? Marie (le) is exactly the right person! "
