Marie Brand and the Love Murder is the 20th episode of the Marie Brand crime series . The television film with Mariele Millowitsch in the title role and Hinnerk Schönemann as chief detective Jürgen Simmel was first broadcast on ZDF on April 22, 2017 .

action

The partner of the online dating agency “Amore Grande”, Jennifer Winkler, is found dead. What at first looks like heart failure while jogging turns out to be murder after the autopsy. The killer had injected insulin into her jugular vein. Commissioner Marie Brand and her colleague Jürgen Simmel start the investigation. First, they question the co-owners Karsten and Christian Wenke, who immediately accuse their former employee, Ben Seidel. Seidel is shocked when he learns of the death of his ex-girlfriend. From him, the investigators receive information about Dietrich Degenhardt, a bitter competitor in the online dating market. He recently lost a lawsuit against Jennifer Winkler and is now facing major financial problems. Marie Brand quickly finds out that Degenhardt is a diabetic and is therefore familiar with injecting insulin. After a thorough examination, however, she does not consider him the perpetrator.

Jürgen Simmel finds a connection to a case in the past in which a young woman was also injured by an insulin injection and has been in a coma since then. This woman was also a customer of "Amore Grande", so that the perpetrator may have selected his victims via this platform. Marie Brand tries to set a trap for him and without further ado opens an online profile at the dating agency. After she was able to "sort out" some candidates, she takes Dr. Steffen Gruber on the shortlist. But although she has not arranged to meet him again, he lies in wait for her in the underground car park. The inspector flees in panic and is shortly afterwards incapacitated by an insulin injection. Fortunately, Jürgen Simmel can rush to her aid and get her to the hospital in good time. While Marie Brand is convinced that Gruber is the culprit, Ben Seidel has also become aware of Gruber and also believes him to be the murderer of his ex-girlfriend. When trying to confront him, he sprays him with irritant gas, whereupon Gruber tries in a panic to flee in the car and in doing so accidentally runs over Seidel. During the interrogation it turns out that it was not he who killed Jennifer Winkler, but his wife. She had found out that her husband was cheating on her and was afraid that her husband would leave her without further ado, putting his online friends out of the way. When trying to kill the next candidate, Sabine Gruber can be stopped and arrested in good time.

Reviews

At fnp.de , Ulrich Feld said: “The story not only cites 'True Love', but also its role model 'Sea of Love'. But the Marie Brand film not only does that much better, it also convinces with its humor. The verbal battles between Marie Brand and her somewhat awkward assistant are full of witty punchlines. In addition, the peculiarities of Brand and Simmel - with her the fear of old age and loss of attractiveness, with him loneliness and the love for fast cars - are combined very nicely with the crime story. "

Volker Bergmeister from tittelbach.tv assesses this episode positively and says: “A solid story and a strong cast of episodes. That is no-frills crime thriller entertainment with wit and speed. "

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm gave the best rating (thumbs up) and said: "A case of 'You know what you have'"
