Marie Brand and the murderous oblivion is the fourth episode of the German crime series Marie Brand . The television film with Mariele Millowitsch as chief detective Marie Brand and Hinnerk Schönemann as chief detective Jürgen Simmel was broadcast for the first time on December 16, 2009 on ZDF .

action

Their latest case takes the inspectors Brand and Simmel directly to the pathology department at Cologne University Hospital. The neuropathologist Dr. Jens Bergengrün is found dead there by his secretary Nicola May. Although there is no evidence of third-party fault, Commissioner Marie Brand finds signs of poisoning. Most likely someone poisoned their coffee. Since Nicola May wants to move away from the scene very quickly, she arouses initial suspicion. However, Simmel is certain that the likeable young woman has nothing to do with the death of her boss. He likes her and even has an emotional relationship with her.

Marie Brand learns from Professor Jacobsen that Bergengrün had worked with him on a research study on dementia. She uses that privately because she has the suspicion that something is wrong with her husband.

After the victim was autopsied, Brand's suspicions are confirmed. The killer obviously knew of Bergengrün's nut allergy and took advantage of this for his goal. The two commissioners learn from Police Chief Engler that Bergengrün used to work for forensic medicine and that he had issued incorrect reports there due to his alcohol addiction at the time. As a result, innocent people may have been sent to prison. One of these convicts was Steffen Schmieder, who was only recently released from prison. Schmieder is questioned, but denies having anything to do with Bergengrün's death.

For Marie Brand it is noticeable that Professor Jacobsen hired Bergengrün even though he knew about his alcohol problem. Possibly he wanted to have some leverage against Bergengrün. She also finds out that Jacobsen's wife had a relationship with Bergengrün, which could have been a reason for an act of jealousy. But it all doesn't really fit together, even Nicola May repeatedly makes himself suspicious by contradicting information and Steffen Schmieder has given the police a false alibi, which also keeps him in the group of suspects. Nevertheless, the suspicion against Professor Jacobsen is increasing. He had rashly treated patients according to his newly developed surgical method, who always died shortly afterwards. Bergengrün had noticed this and therefore Jacobsen had silenced him. When Marie Brand asks him about it, he frankly admits it and is arrested.

The absent-mindedness that Marie's husband has been showing lately was not due to a neurological disease, as Marie assumed, but to his being in love. He had met someone a month ago and is considering leaving Marie.

Reviews

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv says: “The ZDF series about the combination genius Marie Brand and her sunglasses cop Simmel is not reinventing the crime thriller, but it gains in class the better you know the TV crime scene. 'Marie Brand and ...' enriches the genre, is unspectacular and yet unusual. And Mariele Millowitsch is a dream for anyone who does 50+ serial television. "

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm give the 'thumbs up' for a lot of suspense and humor and say about this new Marie Brand film: “The unequal Cologne duo determines with a serious background.” They sum up: “Please don't forget to switch on ! "
