Yung Ngo

Yung Ngo (born February 11, 1987 in Stadthagen ) is a German actor of Vietnamese origin.

Life

Ngo was born in Germany to Vietnamese parents. His parents came to Germany after the end of the Vietnam War as part of family reunification. He grew up with German and Vietnamese as mother tongues. He initially trained as a nursing assistant . From 2006 to 2008 he completed his acting training at the FilmActingSchool Cologne. In addition, since 2010 he has regularly attended the "Weekly Camera Acting Workout" with the acting coach Nick Dong-Sik at the film and TV acting studio in Cologne.

Yung Ngo made his television debut in 2009 in the ZDF crime series Stolberg ; he played the role of Anton Gebhardt, a role without an Asian background. Several roles in series and television films followed. Due to his migration background, Ngo was used almost exclusively for characters of Asian origin. So far, he has only played a German or character without this background in a few cases in the course of his career.

He had roles in the television films The Chinese (2011) and Year of the Dragon (2012; as driver Phan Hung). In the cinema he was in front of the camera in the films Russendisko (2012, as Vietnamese) and Schrebspark (2013). Sylke Enders cast him in 2014 in the role of "Park" in her film Schönefeld Boulevard .

In Raymond Ley's TV docudrama Eine Murderische Abo ( A Murderous Decision ) , which deals with the air attack near Kunduz , Ngo played Gerd Schwab, a German Bundeswehr soldier with Asian roots; Whether it is Vietnamese, Korean or Chinese roots, the film leaves open. In the television film It comes even better (2015) he played the Vietnamese doctor Ngo Quang, whose exam is not recognized in Germany and who only receives offers as a nurse and intern.

Ngo also had episode roles a. a. in the series Krimi.de (2009; as Minh, employee of an Asian snack shop), Da comes Kalle (2010; as Wu Zen, former waiter of a Chinese restaurant and protection racket), Großstadtrevier (2012; as Vietnamese sailor Phuc Nguyen ), Alarm für Cobra 11 - Die Autobahnpolizei (2013) and Danni Lowinski (2014; as Yingpeng Hu, the son of Danni's client Yingpeng Sang).

He played his first episode lead role in the hospital series In All Friendship - The Young Doctors (March 2015) as a young alcoholic Vietnamese patient Thien Phan, who, however, denies having drunk even a drop of alcohol. In October 2015 Ngo was seen in a supporting role in the ZDF crime series Ein stark Team ; he played the Vietnamese interpreter and undercover agent Phan Quang. In the television series Weinberg , which has been broadcast since October 2015, Ngo has a continuous series role; he plays the pastor Anh Hung. In December 2015 Ngo was seen in a supporting role in the Traumschiff episode “ Macau ”; he played the helper cook Kim, who had fled from North Korea . In the 11th season of the ZDF series Der Kriminalist (2015/16) he was seen in a supporting role as the ex-boyfriend of a murdered 18-year-old girl. In the SAT1 television series Einstein , which first aired in January 2017, Ngo played the series role of Dr. Lee Kwon, a researcher from Singapore . In January 2017, Ngo was seen in the ZDF series The Public Prosecutor in an episode role; he played the master's student John Sun, the son of a murdered Chinese jeweler.

In the TV series SOKO Potsdam , which will be broadcast for the first time on ZDF in September 2018 , Yung Ngo is one of the main cast; he is the forensic technician Thomas Brandner. In the 17th season (first broadcast from September 2018) of the ZDF series SOKO Cologne , he had a leading role in the episode as the German-Chinese wine merchant Christian Zang from Shanghai , who was interested in an expensive Alsatian wine from 1938.

In the 2015/16 season, Yung Ngo played at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus in the world premiere of Hans Pleschinski's Königsallee in the Düsseldorf version of Ilja Richter's novel dramatization . He took on the role of the Indian Anwar Batak Sumayputra. He was also the German voice actor for Jay Chou in the US movie The Green Hornet .

Yung Ngo lives in Cologne .
