Production designer Katrin has to master the balancing act between household, children and job. She lives with her husband Jan and their two children in a beautiful house with a garden in Berlin and is absolutely overwhelmed. When Jan tells about the bankruptcy of his company and at the same time she has to take on a major order for the sanitary facilities of a design hotel, she just can't anymore. It was only by chance that she found an offer on the Internet that included a household android with a customizable exterior. As a four-week trial period is generously granted, Katrin makes a quick decision to place an order. When the robot arrives, it looks exactly like her. Katrin does not name him for the time being, but after some arguments the android expresses the request to be called Kate. Kathrin now entrusts the android with a wide variety of everyday tasks, which Kate can complete independently at lightning speed. In addition, she has enormous strength and an autodidactic learning system that enables her to draw her own conclusions from the situations she has experienced and to save them on the hard drive . Katrin is enthusiastic and can devote herself to her design work in peace.
A first problem arises when Jan unexpectedly appears on the day and brings a guest with him, for whom neither Katrin nor Kate is prepared. While Katrin hides in the house and tries to secretly give Kate instructions, she masters the unpredictable situation by always doing what the men tell her to do and conjuring up an excellent meal for them in no time at all. At a suitable moment, Katrin can call Kate back and "park" in the closet before Jan notices anything. Kate's excursion with the children becomes more problematic, during which she fulfills all of Max's wishes and shows no educational ambitions towards Maja either, because this was not on her "program". Another test will be an evening to which Jan and Katrin are invited, but she actually has to work because she has not yet finished her major order and time is of the essence. Kate is totally misbehaving and Katrin finds out that it's because Kate is eating too much human food. When her powers are to be restricted, Kate reacts rebelliously. She develops feelings and an unbridled urge to eat. She also begins to be interested in Jan and when he comes home unplanned one day, both have sex with each other. Katrin catches the two and now has to explain to Jan that she got this double so that she can do all her work. Jan is furious and demands that Kate be sent back immediately. But when she realizes that Katrin wants to park her, she defends herself and manages to maneuver completely into Katrin's place by having her arrested after a small car accident.
In the Schreier house everything is going according to Kate's plan. At first, Jan doesn't even notice that he doesn't have his real wife by his side. After the messed up evening at the Belforts, Katrin had planned to give a garden party to make amends. Kate has now completely organized her and everything is going well, because she has learned something new and knows which topics are suggested in discussions and which are not. Katrin has meanwhile managed to leave the police station. She secretly sneaks into the house and tries to pull Kate out of circulation without anyone of the guests noticing anything of the double. She only partially succeeds, because at the end of her efforts the party bursts and everything ends in disaster. Kate shorts and falls lifeless to the ground. Now Max and Maja also notice that they have had two mothers in the last few weeks, but they think it's cool. It is not easy for Katrin to send Kate back to work either, because unexpectedly she had helped her to complete the assignment and designed a model herself, which the client immediately liked. After Jan and Maja's friend manage to "revive" Kate, the family decides to keep Kate with them.

“Well, look at the US comedy“ Repli-Kate ”, which should be modeled on the robotic film character for this Sat.1 production. But the only thing that the German TV-Kate has in common with 'Repli-Kate' is just a few belches. Essentially, in favor of a few superficial jokes, the actually given topic of identity and role awareness is completely given away instead of questioned. As if that weren't enough, the actors all act like tired robots on autopilot. "
