Tödliches Vermächtnis is a German television film by Ulrich Zrenner from 2015. It is the 63rd episode of the crime series A strong team with Maja Maranow and Florian Martens in the leading roles.

Detective Chief Inspector Verena Berthold and colleague Otto Garber have two murder cases to resolve at once, because both the Vietnamese Lai Nguyen and the wealthy Günther Berger are violently killed. Only in the course of the investigation does it become clear that the two cases are related.

action

The Vietnamese Lai Nguyen is deliberately stabbed on company premises and dies. Detective Chief Inspector Verena Berthold and colleague Otto Garber investigate and learn from his niece Kim that their uncle was a gambler and had many debts. Otherwise, she only noticed that he had taken one of her letters, which came from a Günther Berger, but whom she did not know. The two commissioners drive to the clinic where Mr Berger has been a patient for four weeks because of a serious illness. However, you can no longer speak to him because he has just been murdered. A nurse tells them that the Berger Foundation is paying for the treatment of children from crisis areas in this clinic. The head of this house was able to cheat the foundation, which is run by Berger's second wife Maike, by several hundred thousand euros a year, because he knew about a relationship between Mrs. Berger and her stepson Dominik. However, this does not help the investigators, as everyone involved has an alibi for the time of Berger's death.

Berthold and Garber find out from a private detective with whom Berger telephoned that Berger had been looking for his illegitimate daughter. It is Kim's mother, but she died eight weeks ago. Berger wanted to change his will and now leave part of his money to his granddaughter. Nguyen saw the chance to pay his debts and therefore drove to the clinic to get an advance from Günther Berger. But since he suffered a circulatory collapse due to the excitement, he turned to Dominik Berger. He then stabbed the Vietnamese to death at another meeting because he himself had debts and wanted to prevent the money from being given to a “total stranger”.

The inspectors track down Günther Berger's murderer when they find out that Berger and his old friend Manfred Rosenbaum had served in the Foreign Legion. Rosenbaum happened to overhear the conversation between Berger and Lai Nguyen in the clinic about a Vietnamese grandchild. He realized that Berger had raped his Vietnamese girlfriend in Saigon and that she had a child. Berger then hid her from him and ultimately claimed that she had died in a bomb attack, so that he never found out about the child. In his anger at having deprived him of the love of his life, he then killed Berger.

background

Deadly legacy was the working title Bergers legacy in Berlin turned and October 17, 2015 20:15 o`clock ZDF erstausgestrahlt. Leo P. Ard wrote the screenplay based on motifs from his novel "My father, the murderer".

Sputnik , whose role as a businessman in the series is laid out as a running gag , acts in this episode as a "dialoger" and promotes an animal welfare organization, focusing on polar bears, whereby he wants to secure a decent commission with every newly recruited member. Otto is his first and last customer. Later Sputnik was demoted to a "polar bear", also because of his age. The theme adapts the Berlin polar bear Knut .

criticism

Roger Tell from Tittelbach.tv wrote: “'A strong team' on ZDF is something like the Golf among the crime series: It runs and runs and runs. The 63rd episode with the title 'Tödliches Vermächtnis' has everything that makes an entertaining crime episode: A story with wrong tracks and surprising twists, an exquisite cast [...] and a calm production - pleasantly straightforward & without inappropriate antics. " The Osnabrück newspaper said Frank Juergens: “This case is tough. If you are not careful here and only leave the TV chair for a short time, you could still feel in the dark after the breakup. Screenwriter Jürgen Pomorin alias Leo P. Ard probably wanted to put too much of a good thing in the script from his own novel, 'My Father, the Murderer'. The result is a TV thriller that seems to be frayed at times with a confused network of people and an unnecessarily protracted finale. "

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm only give a medium rating (thumbs straight) and say: "How [...] everything is connected is unraveled in endless dialogues." Conclusion: "Comfortable crime food without finesse."

Ulrich Feld wrote for the Frankfurter Neue Presse : “The case itself, however, struggles to convince viewers. The story is frayed into subplots. ”“ The story is not pointed enough and, unlike earlier cases such as 'Die lonely!', It does not offer any interesting milieu studies. ”Conclusion:“ Also the cast with well-known TV stars cannot help over the unrelated story.
