Best Friends is a German TV film by Thorsten Näter from 2015. It is the 62nd episode of the crime series A strong team with Maja Maranow and Florian Martens in the leading roles.

action

A jogger out with her dog in the forest finds a half-decomposed corpse. Detective Chief Inspector Verena Berthold and colleague Otto Garber are investigating this case under observation of a journalist who is supposed to report on the work of the police on behalf of the press department. While the two inspectors show little enthusiasm, investigator Ben Kolberg is very open to the attractive Tanja Bender.

According to initial research, the victim is Max Keller, who worked as a consultant for a private bank. At first, Keller's family is suspected for not treating his wife or children well. But soon there was much to suggest a connection with his field of activity as a consultant, the main customer was the Hamacher bank. Verena Berthold asks the junior boss Justus Hamacher and learns that Keller has made market analyzes for him in order to draw the company's attention to young, promising companies where financing would be profitable. But Keller was also an old school friend and Hamacher admits that he had also given him the consultancy contract out of this old friendship.

Berthold, however, doubts that friendship was the only reason why Keller paid so well for years. She suspects blackmail and her two colleagues are also tending in this direction based on the results of the investigation. In the search for evidence for their theory, they are obviously sabotaged by Tanja Bender. When Berthold finds out, the journalist is arrested. The commissioner also finds out that the extortion she suspects is related to two deaths that occurred in the friends of Hamacher and Keller years ago. One of the victims died while intoxicated at a party and two years later his friend Marco Bender killed himself. This finally gives the investigators a conclusion about Tanja Bender's motive and the destruction of evidence that she initiated. However, she denies any involvement in a murder plot, she just wanted to prevent the investigation into the death of Max Keller from discovering something of the blackmail that also affected her brother.

After Keller's film material about the events at the party fell into the hands of the police, Justus Hamacher is suspected of having killed the blackmailer Max Keller. During the interrogation, he admits that he was complicit in the death of his school friend, as well as everyone who was there. Marco Bender couldn't go on living with this guilt and therefore killed himself. He himself tried to calm his conscience with the payments to Keller, but this only worked moderately. He didn't kill him. But since everything speaks against him and he is arrested, his father now makes a confession. He found out about the never-ending blackmail and wanted to confront Keller. This dispute escalated after Keller infamously insulted his son.

Reviews

Tilmann P. Gangloff from Tittelbach.tv judged: “'Best friends' is at best average: A family man has blackmailed his supposed friends; now he's dead, but the blackmail continues. The staging is schematic, information is conveyed almost exclusively through the dialogues, and the film music by Axel Donner alone provides tension. ”“ A very normal crime story, which becomes more interesting as the time goes on, even though Näter's staging, formulated benevolently, is completely calm is; even if cameraman Achim Hasse has provided an interesting light a few times. "

The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm gave the best rating (thumbs up) and said: "Well-versed crime thriller without major highlights, but with a timeless plot that hits one or two nice hooks, with enough atmosphere and quite well-functioning characters." : "As a crime nostalgia from the present, fully ok"

At krimikiosk.blogspot.de , Liane Liebenrath stated: “Are you born into happiness or unhappiness? This episode with Verena and Otto is a real TV thriller again. A few suspects, a good story, nice distractions and Sputnik with a very creative, new business idea is not missing either. "
