The big food is a German television film by René Heisig from 2009. It is the 44th episode of the crime series A strong team with Maja Maranow and Florian Martens in the leading roles.

action

In an attack on the "Machnow jewelry store", the owner dies after an exchange of fire. The husband appears surprisingly and is shaken and struggling to maintain composure. Actually, his wife would have had her day off today, but after an employee called in sick at short notice, the boss had to step in. Chief Detective Verena Berthold and her colleague Otto Garber are surprised that no alarm was given and they learn from Walter Machnow that the signal button is defective and that a completely new system should be installed next week. It is therefore assumed that the robber knew this and therefore wanted to carry out his attack this week. There is a recording of the surveillance system, but since the perpetrator was masked, he cannot be identified. However, he was shot in the attack and is obviously injured.

Commissioner Ben Kolberg finds out from the security company which should install the new system. Although the owner makes a serious impression and also has a good reputation, he has a criminal record among his employees. For Otto Garber, despite his assertions that he has become solid, this has the potential for a robbery. At least he could have talked to others about the jewelry store being temporarily unprotected. But not everything runs smoothly in the jewelry family either. The Machnows have two daughters and a son who is very upset that his mother was in the shop when, according to the plan, one of the employees was on duty.

Meanwhile, the shot perpetrator is found dead in a car. He has some of the booty with him, but the valuable gemstones and two striking pieces of jewelry are missing. According to this, he must have had an accomplice to whom he had given the gems before his death. Using photos, Evelyn Machnow means recognizing the dead as Christof Lange, an ex-boyfriend of hers who was a school friend of her brother Frank. Frank Machnow, on the other hand, has high debts and after the two missing pieces of jewelry are found on him, he is arrested. His father swears that he and his wife gave their boy the jewelry a week ago. The seller confirms that the two pieces of jewelry have actually not been there for two weeks. Frank Machnow is then released again.

The inspectors receive a message that Machnow's son-in-law, Jens Steincke, employed Christof Lange as a temporary worker in the warehouse of his furniture store some time ago because his brother-in-law Frank asked him to do so. Ultimately, it turns out that Steincke and his father-in-law are behind the attack. In his desperation, he is now trying to commit suicide. He cannot cope with his feelings of guilt, because he has high debts and has already pledged his life insurance due to risky securities deals that his son-in-law brokered for him. He didn't dare to tell his wife that and so he hit upon the idea of robbing his own shop and having the insurance reimburse him for the damage. They were able to win Christof Lange over for the attack and had no idea that the attack would get out of hand.

When Yvonne Steincke found out about this, she stabbed her husband in anger with a knife, who was seriously injured in the process, but was saved by Berthold and Garber.

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv said: “'Das große Fressen' is a typical Whodunit thriller. Almost anyone could be behind the robbery. No matter how calculated the dramaturgical it all may be - the film from the series 'The Strong Team' is clearly and intelligently built and, from a resolution perspective, the case turns out to be reasonably logical and comprehensible, so that guessing can be really fun. "

In the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung it says: "With 'Das große Fressen' (Director: René Heisig) the creators of the ZDF series 'The strong team' have succeeded in creating an exciting thriller that plunges deep into the milieu of a middle-class, but broken family."

The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm give the best rating (thumbs up) and say - adapted to the film title: "Tasty food for all those hungry for crime stories."
