Tödliche Rache is a German television film by Konrad Sabrautzky from 2000. It is the 14th episode of the crime series A strong team with Maja Maranow and Florian Martens in the leading roles.

action

A half-dark basement room, SEK leader Lothar Reddemann sits tied to a chair. His face shows signs of abuse. A masked man interrogates him, it is about confidential information, but Reddemann is absolutely silent. Then the masked person turns on a monitor. You can see Verena Berthold, who is obviously being observed through a window of her apartment. A crosshair is pointed at her head that follows her every move, controlled by a joystick that the stranger holds in his hands. Reddemann is under great tension, but his care for Verena has the upper hand and the tormentor learns everything he wanted to know.

The next morning, the importance of this interrogation becomes clear. Reddemann's team is standing on the grounds of Tempelhof Airport and is wondering why their boss did not show up for work today of all times. The BKA officer Märtens leads the operation, also unpleasantly surprised by the absence of his colleague. It is about personal protection for the Turkish businessman Murat Caliskan, who today wants to sign a contract worth several billion marks with a German company. The conclusion is of great political importance and the place where it is signed and the route to it are top secret. There was a first incident on the way there, because the criminal police received an anonymous tip that a parcel with a bazooka had been delivered by courier to a house directly on the planned route. Using an alternative route, the vehicles reach the secret hotel unscathed.

Even before the other contracting party arrives, events roll over. Lothar Reddemann, who was able to free himself from his dungeon, storms into the room, pushing Caliskan away from the window, but too late. A window shatters, Caliskan is fatally hit by a bullet, Reddemann survives seriously injured.

Märtens leads the investigation, regardless of the people assigned to him. First he suspends SEK investigator Yüksel from duty. Yüksel's only offense is that he regularly visits a kebab restaurant whose owner used to take part in anti-government activities in Turkey.

Then Märtens puts the remaining investigators on his main suspect, Caliskan's brother Hasan. Murat Caliskan had defrauded his brother Hasan of an inheritance worth millions, with which he laid the foundation of his now so great fortune. A strong motive for murder for the betrayed Hasan. He now has a small company on the Berlin wholesale market, supported by his authorized signatory Thomas Kaltenbach. Verena and Otto are supposed to take care of them. Georg is supposed to investigate undercover against Kai Millner, who works for Hasan as a kind of bodyguard.

When questioned, Hasan admitted that he felt deep hatred at the thought of his brother, but he rejected a connection to the attack. Verena and Otto only learn from Kaltenbach that he used to live in Turkey with his Turkish wife. After his wife's death, he returned to Germany and now lives with Hasan's secretary Yasemin. Apparently there is no connection between Kaltenbach and Murat Caliskan.

Georg actually manages, secretly supported by the suspended Yüksel, to win Millner's trust. After a round of poker together in an illegal backyard club, Millner is convinced that he has found two real buddies here. He even lets them know that he earns money by stealing stolen property of all kinds and is looking for good people to support him. His goods also include precision rifles, just like the one used in the assassination attempt. Yüksel appears to accept the "job offer" and acts as a driver for the booty from a robbed photo shop. He then has Millner arrested. Under the weight of evidence of his illegal dealings, Millner unwraps. He confesses that he sent the package with the bazooka to Kaltenbach.

When he was arrested, Kaltenbach admits everything; he is apparently downright relieved to finally be able to tell his story. He and his wife had vacationed on the Turkish coast many years ago. While hiking, the two accidentally came across a restricted military area. On the orders of the site commander, the fire was opened and Kaltenbach's wife died on the spot. The commander was none other than Murat Caliskan before moving into private business. Since then, Kaltenbach's greatest goal has been to take revenge on Caliskan. Then he drops another bomb: the man he shot in the hotel wasn't Caliskan at all, but a double. He knows that because Yasemin happened to see Caliskan's wife shopping in a luxury department store. Murat Caliskan lived the whole time under the protection of the BKA in a large villa in Grunewald.

After the suspects are arrested, a little later the big contract signing is finally scheduled, this time with the real Murat Caliskan. A woman from the hotel service serves the tea for those present. She bears a striking resemblance to Yasemin, but none of those present notices that who pays attention to a waitress. Suddenly the woman pulls a gun from her apron and only Verena's heroic efforts save Murat's life. Märtens, who was also present, only saved himself by jumping under the table. Then he demonstratively takes over the command again and energetically shakes off onlookers pushing up. He realizes too late that Murat's brother Hasan is among the crowd. He grabs Märtens pistol, which he is carelessly visibly carrying, and shoots the hated legacy sneak with it.

After this negligence, Märtens is withdrawn from the case, Yüksel's suspension is lifted and the internal investigation against Reddemann intended by Märtens is off the table. Enough reasons for the team to celebrate in Sputnik's pub.
