Merciless is a German television film by Peter Fratzscher from 2011. It is the 50th episode of the crime series A strong team with Maja Maranow and Florian Martens in the lead roles.

action

Uwe Reinhold is found shot dead at the entrance to the Berlin Zoo. He worked as an undercover agent and had a girl trafficking ring in his sights. The police find a girl in his garage that he hid from his tormentors. Sofia Voronin comes from Moldova and should give Reinhold important information about the people behind whom she is not even aware that she owns them.

Detective chief inspector Verena Berthold and colleague Otto Garber manage to track down professional criminal Lars Romberg using surveillance recordings at the zoo entrance. This is then searched for with high pressure and advertised for a search. At the same time, a trail leads to the Eisbach shipping company, where Reinhold had worked to spy on the girls' transport routes from abroad to Germany. When Otto Garber tried to ask around, he noticed that he was being watched. On the same evening he was bombed, in which his daughter Anna, who had just visited her father and wanted to use his car, died. Garber blames the forwarding manager Wolfgang Renner, who has meanwhile been trafficking in girls, responsible for the death of his daughter. When Renner is found dead, Stefan Zacharias from the BKA Garber suspects of having killed the man in revenge.

Garber's colleagues do everything in their power to prove his innocence. However, they are hindered by their colleagues at the BKA. They have since found out that Renner was not the head of the gang and that there is very likely a mole at the BKA. Stefan Zacharias comes under suspicion, but it turns out that it is not he, but his Moldovan friend who is the mastermind. Zechariah always gave her information that was useful to her. Uwe Reinhold had found out and therefore Isabel Lagrette had her handyman Lars Romberg put him out of the way, as did the forwarding agent Renner, so that he couldn't reveal anything. The attack on Otto Garber, to which his daughter fell victim, was also orchestrated by Lagrette. Isabel Lagrette and Lars Romberg can be arrested in the end.

Reviews

Rainer Tittelbach from Tittelbach.tv wrote: “'Gnadenlos' is the 50th film in this rock-solid ZDF crime series [ A strong team ] - and not the worst. An action-intensive story hardly allows the viewer to take a breather. Heavily cast Whodunit crime thriller with many twists and turns, consistently high levels of tension and a hit by Take That . "

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm gave the best rating (thumbs up) and said: “The anniversary case is solidly constructed, is growing in tension and is developing extremely tragically for Otto.” Conclusion: “Not mercilessly strong, but good crime fiction goods . "

Tilmann P. Gangloff wrote for Kino.de : “The films with the 'Strong Team' from Berlin were long considered crime comedies, but they never were. Of course, the comic elements helped make the series title a trademark; But first and foremost, the stories are crime thrillers that would work without Otto Garber's dry sayings. [...] The film was directed by crime fiction expert Peter Fratzscher, who provides the usual entertaining mix for the first 30 minutes until the sign changes completely. "
