In the sights of the murderer is a German television film by Georg Schiemann from 1999. It is the 10th episode of the crime series A strong team with Maja Maranow and Florian Martens in the leading roles.

action

The three teenagers Katrin, Ramona and Nils spend their days with casual thefts. They need money to realize their big dream of immigrating to New Zealand. In doing so, they make little progress. Small shoplifting and pickpocketing bring in too little. The brazen theft of a convertible right in front of a Berlin street café gives them a jaunt through the city, but they lack the relevant contacts to sell such goods. In the evening the three go their separate ways. Nils still lives with his parents, Ramona earns a little extra as a prostitute and Katrin, who is homeless, looks for an unobserved corner in some halfway warm hallway. She observes a man who leaves his apartment without properly closing the door behind him. This is your chance. She finds a full wallet in the entrance area and puts it in her pocket. Then she makes a gruesome find. In the apartment lies the blood-covered corpse of the slain apartment owner Clemens Thielen. Katrin flees headlong.

The murder investigation is carried out by the SEK in support of the homicide commission. Chief Detective Otto Garber and his colleague Verena Berthold soon have a suspect, because Katrin was observed by a patrol officer while she emptied Thielen's wallet and then disposed of in a waste bin. Her story that she found the wallet somewhere is hardly believable, but there is no evidence of Katrin's presence at the crime scene. In addition, it is hard to imagine that the petite girl could have killed Thielen in such a brutal way. So Katrin is released again. The investigation also brings to light other possible reasons for the crime. The victim was an official at the Berlin immigration authority and last investigated on a construction site on Leipziger Strasse. The body of a murdered worker was found there. Maybe he had seen the murder. But also inconsistencies in the papers of the foreign construction workers would be a motive.

Verena and Otto also conduct investigations outside of the office. In her attic apartment, Verena meets Thielen's boss Holdag, who is conspicuously eager to convince her over a glass of wine that Thielen has issued forged documents on a large scale for illegal workers and that his killer will surely be found among this clientele. Otto searches the streets for Katrin and offers her dinner and overnight in his apartment. She actually tells him the real story of how she got Thielen's wallet. The next day, Verena picks Otto up at the front door and is horrified that he let an underage suspect stay with him. Even his news that Katrin has seen the murderer and can identify it does not change anything, because it is already in the cover story in a Berlin newspaper. Katrin confided in Nils, and he sold the story to a journalist. As a consequence, the only witness soon has two pursuers: Thielen's murderer Holdag and his accomplice Dudakow, who works as a foreman on the large construction site and murdered the illegal worker there, who knew too much about the origin of the forged documents. Holdag first tries to get Katrin under his control. But the girl is clever, she not only escapes her hunter, but also the police who want to protect her. Together with her boyfriend Nils, she now wants to blackmail Holdag. Verena finds out that it was not Thielen but Holdag who was responsible for issuing the construction workers' false papers and that this service was well paid for. When Thielen discovered it during his last construction site inspection, Holdag had unceremoniously killed him. Verena and Otto manage to catch Holdag just in time when he meets with Katrin and Nils on the construction site to hand over the money, where Dudakow lies in wait with a precision rifle to kill the blackmailers. Holdag and Dudakov were arrested after an exchange of fire with the police.
