Gier is a German television film by Johannes Grieser from 2006. It is the 33rd episode of the crime series A strong team with Maja Maranow and Florian Martens in the leading roles.
action
Chief Detective Otto Garber waits for the tram in the evening and discovers a man through a window who is handling a large-caliber rifle in his basement apartment. He lets the tram go and follows his observation. After calling the police, he can arrest the man with the help of his colleague Verena Berthold. It is about Peter Schneider, an already convicted and now unemployed security guard who last worked for a pharmaceutical company. During interrogation, he claims to have agreed to commit murder. Since his clients do not know that he is now in police custody, they interpret his hesitation as a retreat and without further ado kidnap Schneider's daughter Leonie in order to force him to fulfill his assignment.
In order to get Leonie free, the investigators only fake the murder of the target person. This is Dr. Wilhelm Rössner, CEO of a large pharmaceutical company. Provided that his closest confidante, Rainer Michaelsen, is informed about the bogus attack, the manager agrees that the media can report on his death, but the child is not released anyway. When Schneider accidentally overhears that the investigators suspect Rössner's wife to be behind the whole story, he overpowers his guard and escapes from police custody. He threatens Eva Rössner to shoot her if she doesn't tell him where his child is. Investigator Yüzgüler has now managed to find Leonie, which eases the situation again. Eva Rössner asserts that she loves her husband and knows nothing of the conspiracy. Only now does she find out that her husband is still alive. She gives the police the information about a planned sale of the company to a foreign group. Her husband was strictly against it, only his alleged friend and co-partner, Rainer Michaelsen, wanted to sell.
With this knowledge, the commissioners are just barely able to prevent Michael from attempting to murder Rössner. Rainer Michaelsen can be arrested while he is meeting with the company's potential buyer.

Reviews
Tilmann P. Gangloff from Tittelbach-TV rated the episode positively and wrote: “Most of the stories about the 'Strong Team' are good-mood thrillers. Johannes Grieser and his cameraman Wolf Siegelmann, however, stage the film in an unusually gloomy manner. The police often use lousy tricks. Exciting from the first to the last minute! "
The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm gave the best rating (thumbs up) and said approvingly: "A tricky, amazing case."
