Tilo Nest (* 1960 in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe ) is a German actor , theater director and singer.

Life

Tilo Nest received his acting training at the Mozarteum in Salzburg . His first theater engagement took him to the Schauspielhaus Bochum in 1986 . There he worked under the directorship of Frank-Patrick Steckel with the directors Andrea Breth and Valentin Jeker . He remained an actor in this ensemble until 1992. Through the theaters in Essen , Cologne and above all the Schauspielhaus Zürich , he came to the Theater Basel in 1996 , where he worked until 2001 and a.o. a. first worked with Michael Thalheimer . He then moved to the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin . There he worked with Katharina Thalbach and Thomas Langhoff .

From 2003 he works as a freelance actor. He played at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg under the direction of Jan Bosse , in Basel under the direction of Lars-Ole Walburg and in 2006 in Zurich under the direction of Karin Beier and Jürgen Gosch . Work with Matthias Hartmann followed in 2008 and 2009 at the Schauspielhaus Zürich .

From summer 2009 Tilo Nest was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Burgtheater in Vienna. There he played u. a. the Faust, the Mauler in St. Johanna der Schlachthöfe and played and sang the Ole in Tomas Vinterberg's world premiere of Die Kommune . In April 2012, he starred alongside Mavie Hörbiger in Simon Stephens ' drama Wastwater . From October 2012 he played Orest in Hofmannthal's Elektra under Thalheimers . In the early summer of 2013 he worked again as a guest at the Schauspielhaus Zürich under the direction of Werner Düggelin in Jon Fosse's drama Schöne .

In the 2015/16 season he played the title role in Zuckmayer's Der Hauptmann von Köpenick at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus under the direction of Christian von Treskow .

From the 2017/2018 season, Tilo Nest is a permanent member of the Berliner Ensemble under the new management of Oliver Reese . As "Azdak", he opened Brecht's "Caucasian Chalk Circle" under the direction of Michael Thalheimer, his first season. In the 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 seasons, she worked with Simon Stone, Antú Romero Nunes, Steff Lernous (title role in “Ubu Rex”) and again Michael Thalheimer.

In 2012 and 2013 he directed the Wuppertal Theaters for the first time: Schöne Bescherungen by Alan Ayckbourn and Nora by Henrik Ibsen . In November 2014 he staged Oscar Wilde's The Ideal Husband at the Staatstheater Wiesbaden and in February 2015, Taboris Goldberg's variations were performed at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus. In April 2016 he took over the direction of the German premiere of the play Puppenstube by Lillian Hellman at the Wiesbaden State Theater and there in November 2016 in the musical Shockheaded Peter ' in the Great House . At the beginning of 2017 he took over the direction of Malaga from Lukas Bärfuss at the Kantonstheater Zurich and in the autumn he staged his own version (with co-author Hanno Friedrich) of "Around the World in 80 Days" at the Staatstheater Hannover. This was followed by his staging of David Bowie's "Lazarus" at the Staatstheater Nürnberg with a premiere in February 2019. September 2019 huge success at the Staatstheater Wiesbaden with Daniel Kehlmann's " Tyll " with a stage version developed together with Hanno Friedrich for the large house.

Tilo Nest made his film debut in 1993 under the direction of Peter Sehr in his film Kaspar Hauser . In it he played the role of Karl von Baden . Since then he has worked regularly for television (including several times in the Tatort ) or series such as the RTL series Post Mortem . In 2009 he played the leading role as the gay economy minister Jan van Möllerbreit in the comedy film Unter Strom . This was followed in the spring of 2012 by a leading role in the episode for the Rostock Police Call 110 and in the autumn he took on a part in the movie Parents , directed by Robert Thalheim . In 2014 he premiered at the Hof International Film Festival in the leading role of Zoltan Paul's Amok - Hansi is fine . In 2017 he was seen as Schönfliess' lawyer in the multiple award-winning series "4 Blocks". In 2018 he played one of the leading roles in the multi-award-winning film "Alles ist gut", directed by Eva Trobisch. In 2020 there will be another participation in Tatort (directed by Andreas Kleinert), in “Ökozid” (Andres Veiel) and in “Zürich-Krimi (Roland Suso Richter).

He has also been touring Europe with the actor Hanno Friedrich and the pianist Alexander Paeffgen since 1998 with the music comedy Abba now! (a total of approx. 570 appearances; as of August 2020) and makes guest appearances with the band “Die halbe Miet” and their Tom Waits homage Thomas Wartet . In March 2011, his program Tilo singt Nest with his own songs was performed for the first time at the Burgtheater .
