Deadly Affair is a German television film by Johannes Grieser from 2018. It is the 76th episode of the crime series A strong team with Florian Martens and Stefanie Stappenbeck in the leading roles. It is Linett Wachow's twelfth mission at Otto Garber's side .

action

Julia Sanders is found stabbed to death in a hotel. The inspectors Otto Garber and Linett Wachow look around the scene, while assistant Sebastian Klöckner asks the night porter Tobias Kimmlinger and learns that Julia Sanders was a regular guest at the hotel and had always booked the same room. The investigators soon find out that the victim met strangers repeatedly in the hotel through an affair agency. Everything indicates that this is how she met her murderer. For reasons of data protection law, the research in the agency initially does not lead to the desired goal and a judicial decision is rejected by the public prosecutor. Only later does it become apparent that Richter Frey is also a customer of the agency and has therefore rejected the application.

Assistant Sebastian Klöckner sifts through similar homicides from the past and comes across an unsolved murder two months ago in Potsdam. The victim looked very similar to Julia Sanders and Linett Wachow finds out that she was also a member of the affair agency. Garber suggests using his colleague as a decoy by registering with the agency and trying to track down the perpetrator. Initially, this does not find support from team boss Reddemann, who changes his mind when you can assign a three-year-old murder case in a pension to the current perpetrator and it is clearly a serial killer. Linett Wachow takes a room in the hotel, which is monitored by video from her two colleagues Garber and Klöckner. Wachow now meets with the first candidates and after comparing the collected fingerprints, they match the prints from Julia Sanders' room. Peter Blanke admits that he went to see the woman that evening, but she was alive when she left. The investigators doubt his statement, but unfortunately cannot see any connection with the Potsdam murder case. He'd also left way too many marks in the hotel room, which a serial killer would hardly do.

After Wachow can convince Richter Frey to release the data from the affair agency, she finds a suspicious customer who was in contact with Sanders. Without further ado, she makes an appointment with him at the hotel. It turns out that this is the husband of the Potsdam victim. He admits that he discovered his wife was sexually pleasurable out of wedlock. That's why he had registered with the agency and made contacts on the pretext. When he tried to confront his wife, it escalated and he strangled her in anger. To avoid conviction, Alexander Behrens commits suicide. Since he had an alibi at the time of Julia Sanders' murder, he is ruled out as her murderer.

However, an unexpected clue is found when the corpse of a young, colored woman who was recently found stabbed is autopsied in forensic medicine. The stab channel is one hundred percent identical to Julia Sanders' murder weapon and the time of the crime is analogous. The woman had also worked as a kitchen helper in the hotel where Sanders was murdered. The night porter Tobias Kimmlinger comes into the focus of the investigators and it turns out that Kimmlinger was the night porter in the pension three years ago, where the murder of the woman took place. Garber and Klöckner try to catch Kimmlinger and have no idea that he is already ambushing Linett Wachow in their apartment. When she realizes that her life is in danger, she tries to engage the man in a conversation. He tells her that the kitchen help observed him when he wanted to clean the knife. In his opinion, he had no choice but to get rid of the woman as well. In a scuffle with the murderer, Wachow manages to overpower him. According to Klöckner's research, Kimmlinger had developed an uncontrolled hatred of his mother for years, who had left the family because of her male stories when her son was seven years old. As a proxy, Kimmlinger now murdered women who looked similar to his mother and who also cheated on their husbands.

Reviews

Tilmann P. Gangloff from tittelbach.tv said: “'Deadly fling' tells […] a common crime story from the 'Death from the Internet' category, which has long since ceased to be original.” “The film is still worth seeing: because the schematic plot is interesting is packaged. ”“ Quite unusual for a family thriller is the type of sexually active woman who takes what she wants; the psychological explanation for the murderer's motives, on the other hand, comes from the construction kit of the serial killer cinema. "

At prisma.de , Wilfried Geldner assessed: “The case lives from the many blind spots that the script naturally makes. With everything, the joke doesn't fall by the wayside. ”“ The gags make up for some glarings on the (verbal) sperm and condom trail. ”“ The solution comes from the lexicon of criminal psychology, why not. In any case, people are strongly warned against dating agencies. "

Julian Miller from quotenmeter.de came to the conclusion: “From the psychologically dense foundation - a sex offender slaughters women who make an affair with him - one wants to show little more than a series of old-fashioned clichés, packaged in a no less old-fashioned one Morally acidic self-exaggeration, in which affair apps have to serve as a cipher on the depraved modern world. […] [That] makes it clear once again that this series has largely overslept the last twenty years in terms of narrative and content. "

The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm gave the best rating (thumbs up) and said: “The topic of fraud and betrayal runs like a red thread in the partnership through the solid case. Leo P. Ard's script seems a bit turned, some 'funny' moments appear artificial. The scenes of the confrontation are all the more successful. All in all, an appropriately twisted TV thriller that keeps us going. "
