Thorsten Näter (* 1953 in Hamburg ) is a German screenwriter and director for the medium of television film .

Näter is a graduate of the University of Television and Film in Munich. Since 1978 he has worked for his own films as an author, director and film editor . He worked for five years as a lecturer in film editing at the dffb in Berlin. The Thorsten Näter Filmproduktion produced the films Swoop (1989), Time of Silence (1986), The Jump (1985) and Mario and the Magician (1994).

Näter made a name for himself as a screenwriter and director for crime films in television series such as Tatort , Bella Block (with Hannelore Hoger ) and Doppelter Einsatz (with Despina Pajanou ), Der Dicke und Bloch (with Dieter Pfaff ) and Ein starkes Team (with Maja Maranow and Florian Martens ).

His television film Gegen den Strom (with Ben Becker ) was nominated for the competitions of the Baden-Baden Television Film Festival in 1997, as was his Tatort episode Schatten in 2002, which was also nominated for the Adolf Grimme Prize .

In 1999 his work became Delta Team - Mission secret! Nominated for the German TV Award in the category Best Director in a TV Series . In 2003, Mit der Back zur Wand (with Burghart Klaußner and Udo Schenk ) received a nomination for the German TV Prize in the category Best Director - TV Film / Multi-Part . His film Simple People (with Barbara Auer , Tom Schilling and Klaus J. Behrendt ) was shown at the Emden Film Festival in the New German Films series.

In 2008 he wrote the mystery thriller Die Toten vom Schwarzwald with Heino Ferch and Nadja Uhl in the lead roles, which was shown on ZDF in 2010 , based on his script and under his direction .
