Der Schatten des Berg is a German TV film from the Matula series . The first broadcast was on Good Friday 2018.

action

Matula wants to travel to Italy, but an engine failure in his rickety minibus forces him to involuntarily stay in a winter sports resort where the population makes a strange, secretive impression. In a bar he observes an argument between two villagers. While hiking with his companion, the dog “Dr. Renz ”, he discovers the body of one of the opponents the next morning.

At first it seems as if the dead man, the butcher Martin Wiesner, died in a climbing accident he caused himself, but Matula soon had doubts about this accident theory. With the local police officers Janosch Grebe and Valentin Leipold, he begins to investigate secretly. Grebe quickly presents him with facts that are supposed to prove that Wiesner is supposed to have actually committed suicide . But even this evidence appears doubtful to Matula.

However, this leads to Matula being viewed with suspicion by the village population. It comes to light that an unpopular family in the village was killed in an arson in their house on the mountain pasture and that this incident was dismissed as a smoldering fire. With the village plotting against him, Matula is in great danger. With the help of Leipold, who knew nothing about the conspiracy due to a stay abroad and therefore wants to clear it up, the arson is saved and discovered.

background

The film was shot in the Allgäu in spring . The film deals with motifs from the play The Visit of the Old Lady by Friedrich Dürrenmatt . In addition, a crucifix hangs in his room at the Hotel Alpenhof , and Matula hangs it down.

criticism

"" This is just a harmless old man without a job - he does nothing. " Far from it - Josef Matula, once a private detective at the side of changing lawyers in the ZDF long-running “A case for two”, is already investigating solo for the second time. "
