Claus Theo Gärtner
Claus Theo Gärtner (born April 19, 1943 in Berlin ) is a German actor . He became known to a wide audience through the personification of the private detective Josef Matula , who he embodied in the ZDF crime series Ein Fall für Zwei between 1981 and 2013 and since 2017 in the Matula film series .
biography
The son of a businessman and a ballet master grew up in Oberhausen and gained his first acting experience at the children's theater there . In his youth he lived in Austria , the USA and Southeast Asia . During his music and acting studies in Braunschweig and Hanover as well as his first engagement at the Deutsches Theater Göttingen , Gärtner was active in the SDS Göttingen. After graduating, he initially worked as a set shifter, innkeeper and rally driver. He made his debut in Göttingen in 1966 under Heinz Hilpert , which was followed by engagements in Göttingen, Hanover (where he met his colleague Günter Strack ), Braunschweig, Oldenburg and Peter Stein's Schaubühne at Lehniner Platz in Berlin.
Since the late 1960s, gardeners also appeared on television, and in the thriller Zoff he received alongside Diether Krebs , Jürgen Prochnow and Hildegard Krekel his first movie role, for which he in 1972 with the German Film Award as best young actor award.
Gärtner is mainly known to television audiences as the detective Josef Matula from the crime series Ein Fall für Zwei. Günter Strack insisted that the role of Matula should be filled with a gardener. Since 1981 he has appeared in 300 episodes; for some he was also responsible as a director. With the 282nd episode of the series, Gärtner overtook Horst Tappert - measured in TV cases - who portrayed Chief Inspector Stephan Derrick for 25 years .
On October 31, 2011, the ZDF confirmed that Claus Theo Gärtner would give up the role of Josef Matula after the 300th episode Ein Fall für Zwei. Initially, it was decided to discontinue the series after this episode was broadcast in spring 2013. Since the end of 2013, however, a new edition of Ein Fall für Zwei has been running with Antoine Monot, Jr. and Wanja Mues in the lead roles. In the fifth episode of the second season, The Blind Spot , Claus Theo Gärtner had a guest appearance when he meets the new detective Oswald at a gas station.
In July 2015 it was announced that Gärtner is performing again in an offshoot called Matula . This series has been running since 2017, three episodes have been broadcast so far.
Private
In 2003, after about twelve years of marriage, Gärtner separated from his second wife, Brigitte, who was seven years his junior. They have one adopted son together. Gärtner is third married to the 35 years younger Swiss assistant director Sarah Würgler; They have been a couple since 2003 and were married in Winterthur in 2008 . In 2013, after filming the last season of the series Ein Fall für Zwei, Gärtner gave up his apartment near the Wiesbaden spa park , where he had lived for many years. He still lives partially in Berlin, but has moved his main residence to Basel .
Gärtner is a keen motor sportsman and was a works driver for Mercedes-Benz . Since 1967 he took part in car races. In the meantime he regularly takes part in classic car trips. He did the car stunts in One Case for Two himself. Gärtner ran the Charles disco on Wiesbaden's Taunusstrasse in the 1980s . Since 2007 he has been an ambassador for the Hessian children's aid organization Kinderzukunft (Rudolf Walther Foundation).
