Eisenwichser is a play by Heinrich Henkel that dialogically tells the story of a painter who works with toxic paints and varnishes . It premiered in 1970 and was a huge success for the then unknown author.

Henkel, himself a painter, cites the catastrophic working conditions of workers who paint metal and iron structures as a reason for writing. The author received rave reviews for his play and the Gerhart Hauptmann Prize . In 1972 Eisenwichser , which was staged well over 70 times, was also adapted for television and filmed with Willy Semmelrogge and Claus Theo Gärtner .

In 1979 Markus Imhoof filmed the play for Swiss television under the title Isewixer in a dialect version . The actors were Uli Eichenberger, Jürgen Pruschanski and Paul Lohr.
