Angel of Death is a television film from the crime series Tatort by ARD and ORF . The film was produced by Radio Bremen under the direction of Thorsten Näter and broadcast for the first time on July 10, 2005 on Erste . It is the 602nd episode of the film series as well as the 13th case, the chief detective Inga Lürsen ( Sabine Postel ) and the 8th case, in which the detective Stedefreund ( Oliver Mommsen ) investigated.

action

A sniper has recently been terrifying the citizens of Bremen. There were two fatalities in the last attack and the police have little evidence that could lead to a quick capture of the shooter. Commissioner Inga Lürsen and her colleague Stedefreund ask the press not to report too much so as not to give the perpetrator an additional feeling of elation.

After Lürsen received a video specially addressed to her, Stedefreund suspects that the assassin may have focused on his colleague from the start and that the attacks meant her personally.

The first trace leads to a shooting range in Bremen where a rifle was stolen six months ago. Michael Roeder runs the shooting range, where his son Sascha also trains. Lürsen also discovers the former police officer Heike Hellwig, who had problems because of membership in a private vigilante group and had to retire from the police force. Lürsen therefore concentrates on her for the time being, whereas Stedefreund considers it unlikely that she would steal a weapon where she trains herself.

A webcam near the last attack site brings the investigators a little hope. It can be accessed by Internet users, and after checking these users, the investigators notice Michael Roeder's IP address. The house is searched immediately and a motorcycle is found in the garage with a tire profile that matches the prints on the crime scenes. The murder weapon is not found. Michael Roeder is arrested, but cannot explain all of this. His wife admits that they have family problems, but these are not so serious that he has to go amok.

While Lürsen seeks out Heike Hellwig and finds out that Roeder had a relationship with her, from which the marital problems resulted, she is shot at. Since Roeder is still on the presidium, he cannot be the shooter. Lürsen knows that it can only be Sascha who appears here as the avenger of his family. Lürsen and Stedefreund go to the Roeder family and look around Sascha's room. There they discover not only computer games that glorify violence but also recordings from the webcam that Sascha saved. His parents describe the boy as very reserved and cannot believe that he is supposed to be a murderer.

After Sascha has been put out for a manhunt, he can be put in the steelworks, where he has holed up to get revenge on his work colleagues who have been bullying him for months. When the first shots were fired and the MEK positioned itself, Lürsen and his parents tried to persuade him to give up. However, this does not succeed and Sascha dies when he causes an explosion himself.

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv says: “Finally another successful 'Tatort' from Bremen. No fiddly conspiracy scenario, no pessimistic political plea like the last one in the anniversary case, but a real thriller from (it seems again) the dreaiest city in Germany. What begins as a social drama, now takes on thriller traits, ends with a nerve-racking showdown, in which not only metal is boiling in front of the backdrop of a steel mill. ”Only“ Sabine Postel's reproachful tone and the eternally tortured face in which all the dirt is seems to reflect civilization, is difficult to endure 90 minutes. "

The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm rate this crime scene as mediocre and say: “TV director Näter likes to stage things with a raised index finger, which is not good for this crime thriller. After all, there's a great action finale for it. [Conclusion:] Quick shot, staged overloaded. "
