Spätschicht is a television film from the crime series Tatort . The contribution produced by WDR was broadcast on December 2, 2007 in the first program of ARD . It is the 38th case of the investigative team Max Ballauf and Freddy Schenk and the 681st crime scene episode.

action

Ballauf and Schenk are called to a murder case after a guest in a brothel was shot twice. Ballauf is shocked to discover that he knows the man from the police school and that it is Gerd Samland from the motorway police. Before the commissioners can question possible witnesses of the crime, two colleagues from the "Internal Investigations" appear and take over the case. According to the police regulations, this special department is responsible for crimes that affect police officers. Ballauf, however, hears a certain prejudice from Kriminalrat Brauer's reasoning. Therefore, he continues to take care of the murder of his old friend without permission. He knows that Samland has had problems lately, but cannot believe that he was corrupt, as Brauer Samland suggests.

The next day, a battered body is found on a motorway service station. The research shows that the man is Marek Sobinski, an already missing Polish truck driver. His sister firmly believes that the shipping company he last worked for might have something to do with his death. Her brother was actually a journalist and would have found something he wanted to put to the press in Poland. Thereupon Schenk goes on the search for clues with the forwarding company and Ballauf uses the opportunity to ask around at the motorway police in the hope of finding out something about Samland at the same time. There he meets his colleagues Lemke and Vieth, who react somewhat noticeably. Lemke offers Ballauf in private that Samland supposedly wanted to be transferred and that her small team knew that he was involved in crooked business. Ballauf cannot and does not want to believe that because he knows very well that Samland was an absolute opponent of corruption. When the investigators learned from a witness that Sobinski was beaten up by two uniformed officers, Schenk believes it is possible that they are holding two ends of a connected case in their hands and that colleagues from the motorway police are behind the murder of the journalist.

In the course of their investigations, Ballauf and Schenk come across indications of a sensitive corruption scandal. But before they can uncover the background, they are targeted by the internal investigation. Kriminalrat Brauer does not remain hidden from Ballauf's unauthorized investigation into the Samland case and so he suspects Schenk's colleagues of being involved in the illegal business of his old friend, possibly even his client. Two years ago there was a car slide scandal in which Samland is said to have been involved and Brauer finds some evidence that speaks against Ballauf. He succeeds in convincing Prince's prosecutor to arrange a search of Ballauf's house. Brewer is successful and he finds both cash and the murder weapon. After both Ballauf and Schenk are to be suspended, they flee and hide with Franziska Lüttgenjohann. She continues to help them with their investigations and so they find out that the freight forwarder Monhaupt has been regularly warned by the motorway police of imminent checks on observance of the quiet times. He hadn't bribed Samland for this, but his colleagues. Lemke and Vieth had to fear that they would be exposed if Sobinski had reported the scandal about the "Spedition Monhaupt" to the press. So they cleared both Sobinski and Samland, who wanted to report his colleagues. To prove this, Ballauf and Schenk district manager Lemke set a trap. They secretly call Kriminalrat Brauer and let him overhear Lemke's involuntary confession on his cell phone. Lemke and his colleague Vierth are then arrested.

Reviews

“The best thing that can be said about 'late shift': this 'crime scene' from TV veteran Thorsten Näter is exciting. […] In this thriller everything is subordinated to efficiency and average viewing habits. Nothing is sophisticated here. There are stereotypical dialogues, suspicious types, unpleasant colleagues, ambiguous looks. "
