Next, always further (working title: Tiefer Sturz ) is a television film from the crime series Tatort . The report produced by WDR was broadcast on January 6th, 2019 on Das Erste . In this 1079th crime scene episode, the Cologne commissioners Ballauf and Schenk determine their 74th case.
action
A young driver evades a night traffic control by fleeing from his car in panic, is run over by a tram and is fatally injured. The patrolman Frank Lorenz, who stopped the driver, suspects the Russian mafia, who drove the man to his death, behind the accident. He says he saw a black SUV with heavily armed men at the scene of the crime, bearing the logo of a local Russian company. Synthetic drugs are also found in the victim's car and blood; a little later it is discovered that his brother is also active in the drug environment.
Max Ballauf and Freddy Schenk from the homicide squad take on the investigation. Schenk and Lorenz have been old friends since their time at the police school. Lorenz tried with great enthusiasm to participate in the investigation and finally implemented it on his own, although he was not authorized to do so. Schenk believes his theory; This leads to a conflict with Ballauf, who strongly opposes it and says that the homicide squad is out of place because it is clearly an accident.
While the local Russian fish products company is only involved in minor caviar smuggling deals, its leadership becomes nervous when the investigation targets it. Lorenz persuades the victim's brother that the Russians are the perpetrators. He seeks out the boss and her son and a fight ensues with him, in which a shot goes off that kills the mother.
Lorenz is dismissed from the police force because of his fatal interference. He now claims that there is a mole in the ranks of the Cologne police who protects the Russian Mafia and that he has an informant who can prove this but does not want to reveal himself to the police. In the meantime, it is becoming increasingly clear that Lorenz is a very unstable personality and therefore gets too involved in his police work. He had previously been demoted because he wrongly wanted the same family to be involved with the Russian mafia.
It turns out that Lorenz is mentally ill and his conspiracy theory is based on delusions. He suffers from hallucinations and imagines that he is watching a murder of his alleged informant in a car wash, which never existed. The investigators find out that his sister, with whom he allegedly lives and speaks to, committed suicide a year ago; her apartment is completely neglected. Lorenz is arrested when he shoots a guest at the funeral service for the company boss and threatens the others with a gun. When he is taken away, he succeeds in stealing a colleague's gun, and when he points it at a police officer, he is shot by his colleagues.
title
The phrase “go on, always go on” comes from Lorenz, who after the fatal accident in front of his eyes refuses to receive internal police psychological advice. In such cases, he thinks the best solution is to rush back to work immediately, similar to a thrown rider who is immediately put back on his horse because, according to his portrayal, he would not be afraid of riding.
Quotes
"Doppelkorn with vomit, the scent from Deutz train station" (Lorenz after a strip use)
"You have divided Cologne" (Ballauf, who finds the city map in his new office divided into two halves)
background
The film was shot from April 4, 2018 to May 7, 2018.

Reviews
“The fact that we are sticking to it despite all the weaknesses is also due to Roeland Wiesnekker, for whom German-speaking television has provided too few strong roles in recent years. How he as a good police officer, perhaps too good for reality, wants to ensure justice against all odds on the streets of Cologne, that touches. A chipmunk, run over by life. "
Audience rating
The first broadcast of Weiter, immer weiter on January 6, 2019 was seen by 10.57 million viewers in Germany and achieved a market share of 29.1% for Das Erste .
Trivia
This time the two chief inspectors use a Mercedes-Benz S-Class ( 116 series ) from the 1970s for their official trips . The patrolman Frank Lorenz also privately drives a car with an H license plate - an Audi 80 , but with the license plate number changing in the film: While the Audi can be seen in one scene with a Leverkusen license plate, in the rest of the film it has historical license plates for the registration area City of Cologne .
