action

Mother Freya and son Jesco are murdered when the Habdank family's row house is broken into at night. The father Sven Habdank was on a business trip as a tax auditor, the older sister Anna finds inspector Max Ballauf physically unharmed in the basement of the house. The eight-year-old girl is completely disturbed and in shock. In search of the perpetrator, Ballauf and Schenk investigate in the family environment and also against the building contractor Benteler and the journalist Winthir, who were affected by tax audits by Sven Habdank.

Benteler and Winthir turn out to be innocent, but Gunnar Schwalb, Freya's brother-in-law, is the focus of the investigation. It turns out that he, himself a failed business and recently unemployed, committed the murders out of greed: he and his wife had given Freya a piece of land well below its value; in the event that first Freya's children and then Freya had died, Hilde Schwalb would have inherited the property, since Freya and Sven were not married. Gunnar wanted to murder Freya and both children and disguise it as an extended suicide . The plan failed, Gunnar killed Jesco in his sleep, but did not find Anna and was surprised by Freya, who he then stabbed.

Convicted of the act, Gunnar kidnaps Anna and, pursued by Schenk, escapes in his car. Finally he drives full throttle against a power pole and commits suicide . He let Anna get out of the vehicle beforehand, she remains unharmed.

reception

Reviews

“This crime thriller [...] works wonderfully in places as a barometer of the mood for a crumbling, controversial and controversial segment of society. It's just a shame that you didn't want to rely on the strong characters and dialogues alone. Clumsy slow-motion passages and pompous choral music are used at the most inopportune moments, subtle processes of social erosion are lined with explosions. "

“In any case, from a purely socio-educational point of view, the case is a festival, Ballauf and Schenk can negotiate the value of family while drinking coffee and Kölsch, because Ballauf, the old bachelor, doesn't even know what love is. But the script has provided for a second meta level, which is served as suddenly as a Oktoberfest mass at the Cologne carnival. One of the tax inspector's two customers is a disgusting journalist, which is not surprising because journalists in television crime novels are generally disgusting. "

- Katharina Riehl : Süddeutsche Zeitung

“So far, Seume has only made a handful of films, [...] but she also staged her second 'Tatort' from Cologne with a high level of craftsmanship; As with ' Used ', Gunnar Fuß was responsible for the design . 'Crazy' is again not particularly fast-paced, but especially at the beginning there are some parallel montages that subtly increase the tension; and at the end […] Fuß and Seume pull out all the stops for a dynamic finale with some sweeping tracking shots. "
