occupation

True Love is a television film from the crime series Tatort . The contribution produced by Westdeutscher Rundfunk under the direction of André Erkau was broadcast on September 28, 2014 on Erste . It is the 61st case of the Cologne investigative team Ballauf and Schenk and the 918th crime scene sequence.

action

Natascha Klein, the operator of the internet partner agency “Lovecast”, is found dead in her office. Next to the head of the agency, dubbed by the press as the “Popess of Love”, is an envelope with 50,000 euros. Thus, a robbery is unlikely and more likely a relationship act.

The first suspect is “The Magician”, a marriage swindler who cheated on some of the organization's customers via the “Lovecast” platform. However, his true identity is not known. The inspectors Ballauf and Schenk are investigating together with the new temporary assistant Gabi, who volunteers as a decoy in order to find the "magician". At the same time, they question the cheated women who still admire him, even though the man cheated on them by five-figure sums. Despite their interviews, the investigators do not receive specific personal descriptions. Each of the injured women portrays him differently and none of them have photos. One trace leads to Jürgen Fechner, who had studied together with the victim and therefore had a sound psychological knowledge, and with whom the victim had a relationship for a long time. However, Fechner cannot be found.

A specific suspect is Stefan Schmelzer, who threatened the victim by e-mail and personally after the allegedly perfect dating agency had totally failed him. He was taken into custody but had to be released soon after he was found to be a perpetrator on evidence.

The coroner finds out that Natascha Klein must have recently had an abortion. When Ballauf and Schenk question the dead man's husband, it turns out that the child could not have been her husband's. He was abroad for the time of the crime and thus has an alibi.

When looking through the recordings from the surveillance cameras of the company "Lovecast", Ballauf notices an unknown man who may be the "magician". In addition, there is no recording available from the staircase to the victim's office because the corresponding camera has been defective for a while.

Gabi is now meeting with her first candidate from the Internet, who, however, is not the "magician". When it comes to the next candidate, who introduces himself as an “angel”, the assistant is sure that it will be the one they are looking for. When she makes an appointment with him, she is on her own because Ballauf and Schenk do not hear her call. Accordingly, she is very nervous, which the psychologically trained "magician" quickly notices. He cleverly hears from her answers that she is not who she claims to be. He skillfully incapacitates her and disappears.

Schenk succeeds in locating the presumed lover of the victim and Ballauf discovers this lead at the same time. She leads to the caretaker of the company "Lovecast". Not only was he Natascha Klein's lover, he was the only one who knew that the surveillance camera was defective. He admits to having hit his beloved in an affect when she tried to settle him with a large amount of money and end the relationship.

Reviews

Volker Bergmeister from tittelbach.tv says: “An attractive topic - it's just a shame that the case ends very classically. Director André Erkau has given the crime scene from the Rhine metropolis a new look. It looks fresh without having to do without the tried and tested. "

Sylvia Staude at the Frankfurter Rundschau judges quite soberly: “The Cologne inspectors are meanwhile becoming more and more unsympathetic in their thick skin. Ballauf, Klaus J. Behrendt, treats the lovely colleague Rosenberg, Juliane Köhler, disdainfully. And basically likes to grumble. Freddy Schenk also likes to grumble now. Retiring in a bad mood? Is there something coming up? "

"Murder and melancholy are closely related in this 'crime scene' [...]. As a crime thriller, the episode 'True Love' works only moderately, as a study of the longing for middle-aged city dwellers all the better. [...] The hormone level is [...] high, the voltage level rather low. We're going anyway. Already because of the wonderful dialogues between the two sensitive investigators. "

“The film is a thriller and a psychogram and a romance and a buddy movie, it's a little bit of everything and nothing right. A simple story becomes a big mess: that's what love does. "
