Kaputt is a television film from the crime series Tatort . The report produced by WDR was broadcast on June 10th, 2019 on Das Erste . In this 1098th Tatort episode, the Cologne commissioners Ballauf and Schenk determine their 76th case.

action

The police officers Melanie Sommer and Frank Schneider have the task of ensuring peace and quiet in a residential building if there is a disturbance of the peace, because the partying is very loud there. A little later the young detective is found injured and traumatized in the garden of the house; her colleague has been beaten to death. The house is actually empty and belongs to the Theissen family. In their investigation, the Commissioners Ballauf and Schenk immediately concentrate on the nineteen-year-old Ben Theissen, who is known to the police for assault and drug offenses and whose fingerprints were found on the murder weapon. Since Ben has gone into hiding, they are looking for him. But the very next day he was found shot dead in the house. The investigators initially suspect disputes within the group of perpetrators. However, an act of revenge can also be considered, after all, the murder of a police officer is always a sensitive issue with his colleagues and the victim even lived in a partnership with one of them. According to witnesses, Ben's brother also had an argument with him. The commissioners find out that he also has a weapon. However, since it was stolen from him six months ago, which was also reported, the pistol cannot be forensically examined.

Ballauf and Schenk encounter a special circumstance during their investigation: the parents of Ben and Thomas Theissen had a car accident two years ago in which the father of the brothers was killed. The mother has been in a wheelchair since the accident. The other party in the accident was a police company car with Stefan Pohl and Frank Schneider at the wheel. Ben very likely recognized Schneider that evening, which is likely to have led to the violent attack. The commissioners question Pohl and find out that the two became a couple after this accident, which led to talk and teasing among police colleagues. Only their colleague Melanie Sommer had stuck to them. Since the others refused to go on patrol with a gay police officer, she was regularly assigned to work with Schneider after the relationship became known. It is accordingly difficult for the summer to process the incidents. After consulting a psychologist, she reappears after a short time with a certificate. Her manager refuses to reinstate the young woman, but she insists. On the same day, the student Lukas Strauss was found shot dead. Everything indicates that Strauss was also involved in the murder of the police officer that evening and that he was now deliberately lured into a trap.

Schenk finds out that Sommer forged the certificate and that the psychologist had by no means declared her fit for duty. In addition, she seems to know more about the night of the crime than she stated. When questioned again, she becomes entangled in contradictions, but Schenk refuses to believe that the policewoman could be a cold-blooded murderer. Ballauf convinces him, however, that Sommer is on a campaign of revenge. The commissioners also find out that there was a third person involved in the murder who could now become Sommer's third victim. Sommer is one step ahead of the officials because she knows that it is Selina Greve. After the execution of Lukas Strauss, Selina realizes that she will be next and tries to hide. However, Sommer is able to track her down and threatens her with the pistol with which she has already shot the two men. Ballauf and Schenk, who are also on the trail of Selina Greve, join in and Ballauf shoots the policewoman in order not to let her become a murderer again. Before the ambulance arrives, Melanie Sommer dies in Ballauf's arms, who is very affected by the whole thing.

“There are many ways to die. You have to find out how to live. "

Reviews

Volker Bergmeister judged Tittelbach.tv and came to the conclusion: “Anyone who likes classic investigative work without frills and cinematic experiments will be well entertained in 'Tatort - Kaputt' [...]. [...] A lot was packed into the crime thriller: dealing with homosexuality in the police, discrimination against women in everyday working life, dealing with the loss of parents, drug addiction, precarious living conditions, disregard for the police and violence against the police, vigilante justice, internal investigations and Isolation of a profession from outside interference. The story is winding, the film keeps the tension up to the showdown, but some scenes seem too bold and awkward, the clichéd dialogues lack the polish and the drawing of the milieu is at best routine. "

Christian Buß wrote at Spiegel Online : “Warning, empty phrase alarm! The new Cologne "crime scene" was supposed to be a thriller about the spirit of the corps and the dictates of hardship among police patrolmen. The result is concentrated therapist talk. "

Thomas Gehringer at Der Tagesspiegel said: “'Kaputt' is one of those honest films that treat their subject from different angles, even if it's 'just' a crime thriller. That's not the worst thing you can say about a 'crime scene', even if there shouldn't be any prizes for this episode. "

In Quotenmeter.de Martin Seng verdict: This "joins the consequences that one has after only a short time long forgotten. Not because the quality is so bad or the case has fundamentally failed, but rather because it is simply irrelevant. No big peaks, no big meanings or phrases and the lack of real tension add to the boring this time. "Conclusion:" 'Tatort: Kaputt' at times clearly shows ambitions, but rather it lets a large part of its potential lie by the wayside degenerates into an uninteresting and not very exciting 'crime scene' entry. The television film is therefore not worthwhile as a successful evening entertainment and if you watch it anyway, you will hardly be able to remember it for the next few days. "
