occupation

No Police is a television film from the crime series Tatort . The film by director Kaspar Heidelbach, based on a script by Norbert Ehry , is the 52nd case of the Cologne team of investigators Max Ballauf and Freddy Schenk . The report produced by Westdeutscher Rundfunk was first broadcast on January 8, 2012 on Das Erste .

action

In Klingelpütz Park in Cologne, a body is found, which is identified as the pensioner Fritz Lohr. A witness testifies that a boy was kidnapped in a white van that night . The pensioner intervened and was struck down with a stun gun. However, no one reports to the police to report the kidnapping. Schenk researched and found out that a few years ago someone was kidnapped in a similar case without the police being involved. The victim at the time is Elmar Schmitz-Thom, who has been mentally unstable since the kidnapping. His family became impoverished by paying the ransom and lost the previous construction company , and their current driving school is no longer flourishing either.

Back at the park, Schenk and Ballauf noticed a car that was still there. It is approved for a Daniel Wächter, but his mother claims he is currently on a trip. Since this turns out to be a lie, Ballauf and Schenk are able to convince the guard to let the police help them. The kidnapped man's father, building contractor Markus Wächter, is suspected of only staging the kidnapping when investigators find out that he has a lover and that his company is in a bad way. He could build a new life for himself with the ransom and the beloved. But shortly afterwards the body of the kidnapped Daniel is found. He was able to escape from his captivity, but the kidnappers noticed. He fell to his death in the chase that followed. DNA traces of the pensioner Fritz Löhr are found under his fingernails . This was not an emergency helper, as was first assumed, but an accomplice.

The two investigators are now checking the brothers Andreas and Jürgen Karg, who were investigated during the first kidnapping but who could not be proven at the time. Since Jürgen Karg is in prison, they only meet his brother Andreas. During the conversation, he unintentionally reveals where he spends his free time. The investigators find a wooden house at the said lake. They suspect this is a kidnapping hiding place and go to the hut with the victim at the time, Elmar Schmitz-Thom. The hut is identified as a hiding place by a mark he left in the basement.

Unaware that the police have found guards, the kidnappers persuade the dead man's mother to give a televised speech appealing to the kidnappers to release her son. You get in touch again to arrange a cash delivery. While the kidnappers guide Ballauf through town, Schenk is investigating otherwise. Ballauf is supposed to throw the bag with the ransom over a bridge into the Rhine, where a diver will pick it up. Ballauf can only watch helplessly, but is called by Schenk to the Thoms. Schenk reveals that he found out that the dead Löhr was a comrade of Hajo Thom's armed forces. When the Thoms arrive at home, Ballauf and Schenk greet them and ask them questions. Thom's daughter says that they didn't want to be losers for once. Elmar Schmitz-Thom admits that the idea for the kidnapping came from him, because Markus Wächter is said to have cheated on the Thoms construction company after the bankruptcy of the Thoms construction company and that they would now have to close their driving school without money.

criticism

“The son of a building contractor has been kidnapped. The kidnappers demand: a million and no police! 'No police' is a strong Cologne 'crime scene'. Norbert Ehry's story takes surprising turns, has exciting scenes and the overall timing of Kaspar Heidelbach's film is great. The actors are good, adapt to the strong plot, but subordinate themselves to the well thought-out dramaturgical structure. The commissioners also stay in the background - appropriate to the kidnapping case. "
