Altes Eisen is a television film in the crime series Tatort by Mark Schlichter from 2011. It is the 50th episode of the Cologne investigative team Ballauf and Schenk .

action

At a party, Chief Inspector Max Ballauf flirts with colleague Lydia Rosenberg and spends the night with her. The next day Ballauf is offered a job as head of the state security department at the BKA by his friend Thilo Rasper . Since Ballauf is called to a case with Schenk, he initially owes Rasper an answer.

Homeowner Erika Roeder was found shot dead in her bed. The murder weapon, a gas pressure revolver , is missing two projectiles , but only one can be found at the crime scene. Son Frank runs a pub around the corner with his girlfriend Sophie and found his mother dead. The day before they had sung choir songs with other amateur singers in the restaurant. Shortly after Erika, the betting shop owner Peter Stamm left the restaurant. He claims to have driven Erika home. Like all the other respondents, he describes Erika as a friendly woman with whom he got along well. Young people who have their regular meeting place near the house, however, report to the investigators that Erika had arguments with almost everyone. On the eve of her death, she also had a loud dispute with Stamm. However, the young people do not know what it was all about. Erika disappeared in the house after the argument. Gerda Felten and the transsexual Trudi Hütten, two long-term tenants, live in the house, but they do not want to have noticed a quarrel.

The investigations show that the house had a mortgage of 300,000 euros. The money has disappeared and is not in Erika's or Frank's account; Frank had stolen a small sum of money along with various documents from Erika's sideline hardware store and informed his girlfriend. Since the 300,000 euros were reclaimed by the bank, but Erika obviously did not want to repay, the house was threatened with foreclosure . In that case Frank would not have inherited anything. He is therefore suspected of murdering his mother. At the interrogation, however, he says that he loved his mother despite all the differences. He knows nothing about the mortgage on the house. Sophie and Peter Stamm, who used to be a couple, are also clueless about the 300,000 euros. Ballauf and Schenk believe that all three are telling the untruth. Trudi, who accompanied Frank to the police station, is chatting with Franziska Lüttgenjohann, and when asked, tells her about the difficulties she has had as a woman for 30 years, and about the fact that she was divorced from her wife.

The investigators hardly get any further with their investigations. In private, Ballauf is in a crisis, as he has to realize that Lydia is married. Out of frustration, he promises Rasper to take on the post at the BKA in Wiesbaden. Franziska Lüttgenjohann can only give the investigators marginal information: Trudi's wife at the time was none other than Gerda Felten, whom Trudi, formerly Arno, now looks after like a friend in old age. Since traces of Trudi's wig were found under Erika's bed, Schenk asks Trudi, who says, however, that she occasionally put the old woman to bed. She had a motive because she and Gerda were bullied by Erika. Both tenants should be forced out of the house, since the house would only have been sufficiently profitable to sell without a tenant.

Frank Roeder has now become suspicious, he believes that Sophie and her ex-boyfriend Peter Stamm know of the whereabouts of the 300,000 euros. When he sees Peter slipping Sophie money and receiving a document for it, he freaks out. He threatens them both with an ax and destroys Peter's car when he tries to drive away. Peter then beats up Frank and later Trudi, who rushes to Frank's aid. Only the randomly arriving inspectors Ballauf and Schenk can separate the opponents. You have house search warrants for Frank and Peter with you. A house search is carried out, and Frank's apartment contains the bag with the stolen money from the safe and various bank documents relating to the mortgage. Frank is now considered an urgent suspect and also admits to having thought of a murder of his mother, which controlled him all his life. However, on the day before her death, he only charged the gas pressure revolver, but did not fire it.

Trudi spends a memorable, loving afternoon with Gerda. Then she calls Peter Stamm and claims that she knows what he did with the 300,000 euros. She asks him to come to her, otherwise she will go to the police. Peter Stamm burns the document he received from Sophie. It is a promissory note in which he confirms that Erika has received 300,000 euros from her. In Trudi's apartment, she provokes Peter until he hits her. With her face smeared with blood, she shouts for help from the window and finally, pretending to be a push, throws herself out of the window in front of several witnesses. Trudi is seriously injured and taken to the hospital. Peter Stamm escapes, but turns himself in to the police a little later. Investigators received a copy of the promissory note from Sophie and Peter admits that he gambled away the money, but wanted to repay it.

The investigators receive a call that Trudi is dying. They also learn that the second projectile of the gas pressure pistol was found in the hospital in Gerdas Schienbein. On her death bed and with Gerda's help, the truth finally comes to light: After the argument with Peter, Erika came into the garden and angrily shot Gerda, who made her jointly responsible for her misery. In the tussle, Gerda was able to take the pistol and deliberately shot Erika. Trudi came later and brought Erika to her apartment and covered the traces of the crime. Your jump out of the window should steer the suspicion away from Gerda to Peter or Trudi himself. The investigators notice that Trudi's end is approaching and withdraw. A little later Trudi dies in Gerda's arms. Gerda can then be led away.

Ballauf has reconciled with Lydia, who was abandoned by her husband. He now decides, to Schenk's relief, to renounce the BKA post.

criticism

"" Altes Eisen "is the 50th case of the Cologne" Tatort "duo. Schenk and Ballauf, who have distinguished themselves since 1997 with their friendly demeanor and political correctness, often with an exemplary attitude, also live up to their “image” in the event of an anniversary: here Freddy Schenk's complacency poses, there Max Ballauf's expression of dismay. But it is within limits. Successful Whodunit that "comes to life" between tragic nuances and appealing design, between Edgar Selge and Mark Schlichter's coherent direction. "

- Rainer Tittelbach : Tittelbach.tv

"It's always the same in Cologne," groans Commissioner Schenk at some point during the investigation: "Everyone is pissing off, and behind that there is only hatred and arguments." In fact, Cologne is not doing very well in the anniversary "crime scene" . But this "old iron" teaches: It can be wonderfully successful to give a television thriller its local flavor - and still let everyone involved speak clearly for the viewer. This Cologne "crime scene" proves that the people of Cologne can do everything, even high German. "

- focus.de

“Your 50th episode brings the Cologne commissioners some emotional excitement. Not only Max's infatuation irritates the cooperation, an offer to transfer to the BKA in Wiesbaden also causes unrest in the team. [...] Even if Behrendt and Bär seem to have become one with Ballauf and Schenk over the years, this "crime scene" is outshone by another figure: Edgar Selge shines as a sensitive, caring and sympathetic Trudi, so that every scene is one without him Leaves a feeling of emptiness. Thanks to this cast, the "old iron" succeeds in what otherwise many "crime scenes" fail: dealing with several major issues. The focal points of gentrification and transsexuality stand side by side with almost equal rights and yet both come to life with a certain depth. "

- Susanne Baller : stern.de

“The new TV season [begins] with a" crime scene "from Cologne. At first sight the story is hardly more exciting than the performances of the Alpine neighbors. The explosiveness is in the detail: From the point of view of Cologne, their house channel WDR operates nest pollution. "

- Tilmann P. Gangloff : evangelisch.de

"The Cologne" Tatort "has been sending inspectors Ballauf and Schenk into the race for 50 cases. They now see for themselves that the investigators are behaving like an old married couple, which does not improve the situation for the viewer. If it hadn't been for Transe Trudi. "

- Christian Sieben : rp-online.de

“The two Cologne investigators show a solid appearance. But it's not enough for more. Much has happened in the meanwhile 50th case of Schenk and Ballauf - like in an old marriage. "

- Kai Rixecker : stuttgarter-zeitung.de

“In the center of yesterday's« crime scene »stood an old man in women's clothes. Unfortunately, Political Correctness took over the dictation in the end. "
