occupation

Manila is a television film from the crime series Tatort on ARD and ORF . The report produced by WDR was broadcast for the first time on April 19, 1998 and is the 383rd episode of the crime scene and the third case by the investigators Ballauf and Schenk .

action

After some Cologne gas stations were made unsafe by a gangster couple, a special commission was set up at the Cologne police force, which also included commissioners Ballauf and Schenk. The line is held by Kriminalräger Berger from the LKA in Düsseldorf. In the hope of catching the criminals, the police conduct a large-scale manhunt. When prosecutor Wehling's car happened to get under control and had to stop, an Asian boy escaped from the car and was picked up by the police the next day and handed over to an appropriate facility. There, the doctor noticed traces of abuse that point to sexual abuse.

Prosecutor Wehling explains that he was distraught and picked up the boy at a motorway service station and took him away. Ballauf doubts it and also finds contradictions in the information, but since the boy doesn't speak much, he can't prove anything to Wehling. Before he can really pursue this, a Filippina appears who claims to be the boy's mother, but inconsistencies also arise and Ballauf notices how the child is becoming more and more closed. Since he confirms with a nod that the woman is his mother, he is entrusted to her and she can leave the country unhindered with the child. Although Ballauf is actually supposed to catch the petrol station gangsters as the current case, March's fate touches him and he is investigating child abuse at the same time. He comes across Ernst Swoboda from Cologne, who is on file with the police because he “rented” children to tourists in Manila. Ballauf, however, can no longer ask him about the current events, as he has since been found dead in his car. When the investigators look around in his apartment, they find a reference to the public prosecutor Wehling and Ballauf is certain that the public servant is involved in the child abuse and may have silenced Swoboda.

Detective Berger can now free another kidnapped Filipino child from the violence of alleged child molesters. As it turns out, she is March's sister, who may have been secretive enough not to endanger her. Ballauf therefore wants to travel to the Philippines to find the boy so that he can now testify against his tormentor without fear. Once there, he immediately goes in search of the boy and gets caught in a trap. He was beaten down and surprised by the police in a room with a seven-year-old boy, who then arrested him and threatened him with the death penalty. When Schenk learns of Ballauf's predicament, he too travels to Manila to help his colleague. He gets him out of jail on bail and they go to find March together. Schenk had researched in advance and found a father who looks after street children in Manila. So they actually manage to find March and in the process blow up one of the seedy hotels that regularly rent children to sex tourists.

Mysteriously, prosecutor Wehling also appears in Manila and tries to do everything possible to destroy all possible evidence against him. When he sees himself caught, however, he is run over by a bus.
