Pantasina is a fraction (district) of the northern Italian municipality of Vasia in the Liguria region . Politically, Pantasina belongs to the province of Imperia . Until 1928 the place was an independent municipality.
geography
location
Pantasina is 16 km northwest of the provincial capital Imperia on the northern edge of the upper Prino Valley, 430 meters above sea level. As a district of the municipality of Vasia, Pantasina is part of the settlement unit surrounded by a rim of hills and sloping towards the sea, to which, in addition to Vasia, the municipalities Dolcedo and Prelà (each with numerous districts) belong. One of the closest settlements is Valloria, famous for its painted doors.
economy
The earlier agriculture, which led to the construction of numerous terraces on the mountain slopes, no longer exists today. Of the once 600 residents of Panatasina, only a little over 100 (with a high average age) remain. Some still cultivate traditional olives in the extensive olive groves characteristic of Pantasina. This laborious work was put into the formula by the Ligurian poet Giovanni Boine (1887-1917): "E noi fummo fra gli ulivi come un popolo antico nella sua cattedrale" (And we were under the olive trees like an old people in his cathedral) . Tourism is an important source of income. Holiday homes and apartments are rented to tourists from all over the world. Some of the mostly old houses have been bought and rebuilt in the last few decades. A high percentage of the owners are German.
Buildings
The parish church dedicated to the Transfiguration of Christ ( Trasfigurazione di Gesù ) dates from the 16th century. The pastor is currently (2019) the Capuchin Father Andrea Perzilo (* 1970), a former Africa missionary. Opposite the parish church is the Katharinenkapelle, a short distance away (in the street Giuseppe Mela) the Josefskapelle ( San Giuseppe ), the restoration of which is being worked on thanks to a private initiative. Three other chapels are scattered over the local area. About 1 km from the parish church is the neo-Romanesque pilgrimage church Madonna della Guardia from 1934, from whose forecourt you can overlook the whole valley up to Imperia Porto Maurizio.
traffic
Pantasina can be reached by bus line 25 from Imperia Oneglia via Vasia and Pianavia.
