Aurel Manthei (* 1974 in Wuppertal ) is a German theater and film actor .

Life

Manthei completed his high school in Hamburg and Unna . He then studied at the Free University of Berlin and the Folkwang University in Essen . Since his training Manthei has appeared in theaters as well as in film and television. Aurel Manthei played the role of Superintendent Florian Glade alongside Rudolf Kowalski as Chief Superintendent Stolberg in the crime series Kommissar Stolberg on the traditional Friday crime thriller slot of ZDF - at the end of season 4, Superintendent Glade was shot. Since 2011 he has played the male lead as “Max Janssen” in the ZDF series Mordshunger - Verbrechen und other delicacies . After several years of engagements in Leipzig (2002–2008, where Manthei was a lecturer in drama at the “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” University of Music and Theater in Leipzig) and Zurich (2009–2012), Manthei has been a permanent member of the Bavarian State Theater / Residence Theater since 2012. Here he has played Baal since 2015 under the direction of Frank Castorf. After a few performances, the production was banned by the Brecht heirs for copyright reasons and was only allowed to be shown again at the 2015 Theatertreffen.
