Gustav Gutheil

Amandus Gustav Gutheil ( 1868 in Blankenhain near Weimar - 1914 ) was a German Kapellmeister, conductor , composer and music teacher .

Life

Gutheil received his first training in Weimar and then repeatedly took part in orchestral concerts by Franz Liszt and Hans von Bülow . He was later accepted into the chapel of the Weimar court theater and promoted by Richard Strauss . From 1895 to 1897 he worked as Kapellmeister in Strasbourg and from 1897 to 1900 as Kapellmeister at the Weimar Court Theater. On the occasion of his wife Marie Gutheil-Schoder's engagement to Vienna, he also moved there, where he has been working as a composer and giving singing lessons since then.

As a conductor, he demonstrated discretion and discipline and conducted the performances with care and warmth. He was an able musician in general, who knew how to use the opera apparatus with great skill and who possessed lively musical comprehension, caution and energy.
