Porto Alegre is a small village in the very south of the island of São Tomé in the Caué district in São Tomé and Príncipe . The village is located about 40 kilometers southwest of the capital São Tomé . According to official estimates, Porto Alegre had around 300 inhabitants in 2005.
In Porto Alegre there is a school, a church and a market square. Many locals live from tourism , which is why there are many holiday homes and leisure activities for tourists in Porto Alegre.
